Superb Snow awaits the Derby de la Meije

One of the wildest ski races in the world takes place this coming weekend on the magnificent slopes of La Meije at La Grave, France. With bags of recent, fresh snow this year’s Derby de La Meije looks set to be a classic and will run for the full vertical descent of over 2,000 metres.

The Derby de la Meije is the only international event to unite so many people for 3 days of incredible skiing and snowboarding. It is also a music festival and a great occasion to meet riders from all over the world.
The 18th edition will take place from 4 to 7 April 2006 at La Grave-La Meije in the French Hautes Alpes.
The Derby, which has gone from success to ever greater success over 17 years,
has become THE race for a generation of freeriders, combining an exceptional atmosphere with one of the world’s most magical spots. It will continue to develop and provide new challenges without losing sight of its roots.

The Principal of the Derby:
Start at ‘Dôme de la Lauze’ at 3 550 metres to reach the finish line as fast as possible on skis, snowboard, monoski, telemarks or any other controllable snow going device (like snowscooter, snowskates, sledges…).
No gates, no groomed slopes, no restrictions except for a few too dangerous lines down the wild terrain of La Grave. With about 2 150 vertical metres of vertical drop in the wilderness of the Meije mountain range, this race is truly unforgettable.

Bonne chance à tous!
