Porta Alpina to go ahead
The Telegraph reports that the amazing Porta Alpina project, the Swiss plan to build a railway station deep below the Alps south of Zurich, is to go ahead.
Over two thousand feet below ground level, the station will give access to high-speed trains to international destinations including London.
The station will be linked to the surface by the world’s longest passenger lift, whisking passengers from a Eurostar-style train to the surface in seconds. If tourists bring their skis with them, they can be on the slopes of the Sedrun and Andermatt valleys in minutes.
