Formigal to host 2008 Junior World Championships

SPANISH RESORT OF FORMIGAL TO HOST JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2008

Formigal, part of Spain’s largest ski group, Aramón, has been chosen to host the Junior World Cup in 2008.

Securing this competition Formigal continues its advance into the world of international competitions which began three years ago with the Zagales Trophy for children.

Formigal continues this season with the European Women’s Cup, putting the resort firmly on the international map as a recognised ski station along with the likes of Sestriere, Madona di Campligio, Lake Placid and Megeve.

As well as this the VIII Zagales Trophy will be held at the beginning of February next year with new teams and greater numbers expected, while on 19th February Formigal will host the Super Giant race of the European Youth Olympic Festival.

Formigal, which has this season seen an investment of €33 million, was chosen following an assembly of the International Ski Federation (ISF) in Vilamoura, Portugal last May.

The 2008 Junior World Championships will be held between 25 February and 2 March and the different events will include the races, Descent, Super Giant, Giant and Slalom.

This prestigious event, which during the past three years has brought competitors from a total of 50 countries, will welcome between 350 and 400 participants. Add to this almost the same number again in terms of technicians, trainers, doctors and associated personnel and you have what is considered to be the number one downhill ski event, a trampoline to launch the youth of today who will be the contestants of the Winter Olympics of tomorrow.

Aramón, Spain’s leading ski group, also owns and manages the Aragon resorts of Cerler, Panticosa, Javalambre and Valdelinares.
