Cardrona Ski Resort adds New Runs and Upgrades Childcare Facilities
New Zealand’s Cardrona Alpine Resort has created new trails in Scum Valley, the valley between the Main and Captain’s Basins. The trails that go through the upper Scum Valley and over to Captain’s Basin, known as Scum Valley and Swaggerman, have been made wider. This will make it easier for low intermediates to ski into Captain’s Basin from the top of the Whitestar chairlift.
The trail called “Powderkeg” in the lower Scum Valley has had rocks removed and was widened as well, making it better for powder hounds on powder days.
The resort is also upgrading all its Kids’ Centres and adding new trails in Scum Valley in time for the 2008 ski and snowboard season.
Cardrona’s old Nursery will become the Kids’ Centre for 5-14 year olds. It will be the single drop off point where rental and lessons are also organized for this age group. For parents who only have 5-14 year old kids, and pre-register and pre-pay, they simply drop off the kids at this new center and go. Parents will have a more relaxed morning and can get out onto the slopes more quickly.
The Nursery will move to the Noodle Bar building into a completely refitted floor set up for all sorts of activities. The Kids’ Centre for 3-4 year olds will have an extended indoor play area as well as a new outside playground along with the special lessons just for their age group.
The previous Kids’ Centre for 5-14 year olds will be dedicated to Kids’ Programs such as Skiwees (four-day ski program), Lowriders (four-day snowboard program) or Hobbits (local kids’ Sunday program).
