Muslim women conquer Everest
TWO Iranians yesterday became the first Muslim women to conquer Mount Everest as the early season expedition took advantage of a rare weather window to reach the world’s highest summit.
Farkhondeh Sadegh, 36, a graphic designer, and Loleh Keshavarz, 26, a dentist, hoisted their country’s tricoloured flag on the summit together with six Iranian men at 10:45am local time yesterday, as reported in this article by Scotsman.com.
Ok, so it’s not skiing but it’s inspiring news from the mountains for a number of reasons. We hope to add to our coverage of skiing in Iran shortly; we know we have a few skiers visiting our site from Iran so we’d just like to say “As-Salaam-Alaikum!” and please send us news from the beautiful mountains in your country!
