Former Austrian ski coach banned for life

Emil Hoch, the former coach of Austria’s cross-country ski team, was banned for life today for his involvement in the blood-doping scandal at the 2006 Turin Olympics. The FIS found Hoch guilty of possessing banned substances and helping athletes to dope. He will not be able to participate in any federation events in any capacity.

Chemmy Alcott DQed by ski width error

Chemmy Alcott was disqualified after the first run of the Women’s Combined Slalom today after her slalom ski failed to meet the required tolerances of FIS Rule 222.1.

In the best Olympic result for a British female skier for thirty years, Chemmy Alcott took a superb 11th place in the women’s downhill at San Sicario, Italy. The Gold Medal went to Michaela Dorfmeister of Austria, just 1.36secs of Chemmy.

The Olympic Gold Medal for the Downhill went to Antoine Deneriaz! Antoine made a late charge to snatch the number one spot and pushed Michael Walchhofer (Austria) into silver, with Bruno Kernen (Switzerland) third.
