Slide Sports Brands Go for Bamboo

Exhibiting brands at this year’s Slide (Trade Show organised by SIGB - Snowsport Industries of Great Britain) will be showcasing their green, ecofriendly credentials.

Salomon
Salomon snowboards have launched a brand new freestyle eco board called the SICK STICK. Made entirely from bamboo with the edges of the snowboard being constructed from rubber and bamboo, while the layers that make up the base of the board are made of bamboo light glass.

The structure of the board offers super easy transition to switch even in deep powder – it’s a board that turns untracked runs into pure playgrounds.

Thaw
Thaw is a brand that designs thermal base layers to suit all outdoor pursuits. Thaw are launching a new line of bamboo thermal underwear to move towards more eco friendly material that still fits the technical criteria of the brand.

Bamboo thermal underwear:
• Wicks moisture away from your skin – keeping you naturally drier
• Keeps you comfortable in all temperatures, worn as a base layer it traps warm air next to the skin but is highly breathable in hot weather.
• Is naturally antibacterial – staying fresher and odour free for longer.

Most importantly, bamboo is just as good as or even better then any of the other alternatives but it is also extremely good for the environment.

AKU
Innovative is the word to describe AKU’s eco treat. AKU have made a vegan boot within the Suiterra hiking range. Both the men’s and women’s Suiterra Injected and Suiterra Micro range have synthetic uppers and are bonded with glue free from any animal derivatives.

Giving something back to the community is also a huge part of the eco initiative and both Red Panda and ThirtyTwo are doing just that.
Red Panda’s range of accessories features hand knitted Merino wool hats. The hats are made on the Sino Tibet Borders by people skilled in an applied art. This social project is aimed at creating employment for local people in a deprived area. Not only is Red Panda helping employment in this local community but they are also giving a financial contribution to projects in various places around the world.

ThirtyTwo has introduced several green initiatives through their Tread Lightly Programme. Committed to helping preserve the environment, the initiatives so far include the Adopt-A-Highway programme and Grease not Gas. Through the Adopt-AHighway programme, ThirtyTwo has committed to rehab a two-mile section of America’s Highway 395 between its Southern California headquarters and Mammoth Mountain, where litter will be picked up on a regular basis. Grease Not Gas promotes the use of vegetable oil to run diesel engines as well as the use of alternative fuels.
