Why you should ski all year round

The guys and girls of the Warren Smith Ski Academy have listed five reasons why those of us in the UK should try to ski all year round - and who can argue with that?

Here’s what they had to say about the snow conditions for their most recent courses at the British Indoor Ski Slopes.

“The snow keeps getting better each year giving a broader spectrum for improvement. Myself and the Academy team returned to the UK once again this May for the UK indoor real snow courses. We hosted the courses in the SNO!zone venues at Milton Keynes, Castleford and Braehead. Many skiers took advantage of these training sessions in the UK and continued to move their skiing on outside of the typical skiing calendar.

This spring was the best yet with regards to the snow conditions at all the SNO!zone venues. Each time we go to the indoor centres, they seem to have found more and more ways to improve the snow conditions and thus help us make the learning process almost the same as on the winter and summer courses. Temperatures and air condition seemed better and as a result the snow was perfect for us. It gives us great confidence knowing you can do all the exercises and drills we work on in Verbier and Saas-Fee at SNO!zone. This way our clients can continue the learning curve that goes on at the winter and summer courses and not let the rusty feeling set in.”

And here are those five reasons to ski year-round :-

  1. The indoor snow slopes in the UK are quieter during the summer months and give an even more enhanced skiing experience during these times.
  2. You can work on the areas of your ski technique in preparation for next season, Carving, Moguls, Steeps, Freeride, with specific Academy exercises developed to work at the Real Snow Indoors centres.
  3. Like with Golf and Tennis, the longer you leave your skiing the more your technique can deteriorate. Skiing all year builds confidence and takes your technique beyond a level that could be achieved with just winter holidays.
  4. It keeps the ’ski specific’ muscles working that don’t normally get used during other sports. This greatly reduces the risk of injury and improves performance.
  5. It will give you the chance to fine tune your ski equipment, getting the skis serviced just right and making sure your boots fit perfectly for your winter holidays.
