Rahlves quickest, Mickel eighth in Bormio practice
Finlay Mickel skied the eighth fastest training run for tomorrow’s classic Bormio Men’s World Cup Downhill, his best training performance in recent months.
While the US Ski Team’s Daron Rahlves skied the quickest time today, 1 minute 59.27 seconds, Finlay was just 1.3 seconds slower, and set the fastest time for the last split time into the finish line.
“It’s pretty promising. There were quite a number of guys slowing down to get the start numbers they want so it is not totally indicative, but he was certainly quick on the bottom sections of the course and there is a really good opportunity to capitalise on the day. This show’s he is skiing well and is in a good frame of mind and if he can do the same thing tomorrow out of the start hut then a good result is possible, certainly a top 15 would be good. On the top sections today he was not great and so there is still plenty to do but he clearly did a good job on the bottom. Certainly his best here is still to come.” Said Snowsport GB’s performance director Mark Tilston in Bormio today.
