New Zealand Extreme Skiing Comp
A seriously Extreme Skiing event kicks off on Mount Ruapehu this weekend. According to the Rotorua Daily Post, a full field of competitive freeskiers is expected to take to the cliffs at The Pinnacles at Whakapapa.
Competitors will throw themselves off one of Mt Ruapehu’s steepest peaks down a series of cliffs on a slope which will have no sympathy for those who get it wrong.
But despite - or perhaps because of - the extreme nature of the competition, dozens of skiers and snowboarders are expected to turn up this weekend to battle it out for the top spot in the Galliano/Marmot Extreme Competition.
It’s the first time the event has been held in the North Island but it has hit the right notes with extreme skiers who are lining up to take part in the inaugural competition.
