Maier opens 2006 Season in style

Hermann Maier started his 2006 Ski Racing Season in style by edging Bode Miller in the Giant Slalom, as reported on BBC Sport. Austria also claimed third place in the GS with Rainer Schoenfelder close behind.
Maier beat the American by 0.07 seconds over the two runs at Soelden, clocking a time of two minutes 17.60 seconds.
It gave the Austrian, a four-times overall Cup champion, his 51st World Cup career win.
