Situated close to the River Otra, this hotel is only a one-hour drive from Kristiansand and is the oldest hotel in the Setesdal Valley. Hotel Dølen is a natural pit stop for those travelling from eastern to western Norway. The hotel has a charming atmosphere and the hotel terrace offers a beautiful view over the river. The original hotel is from 1885 it burned down in 1919 and was then rebuilt. This hotel from 1921 is an historical building. Among the visiting celebrities is former Norwegian prime minister Einar Gerhardsen and during the war, the building was used by German officers. There's a lot of history and stories in these walls. When bathrooms where installed in the late 70's, this resulted in smaller, yet cosier rooms.
