More about Hotel Certosa Di MaggianoThe Carthusian Monastery of Maggiano is the oldest amongst the ones built in Tuscany. Siena built three in the 14th century of which two still exist: Maggiano (1314) and Pontignano (1343). Turned into a hotel in 1975, the Certosa di Maggiano offers you a variety of thoughtfully appointed areas in which to spend different moments of the day. The 'Emperor's Hall' is so-named for the twelve 18th century paintings, portraying the 12 Roman Emperors, which line its walls. The Library, dominated by an antique alder-wood bookcase, also features sofas upholstered with fine silk created by the Antico Setificio Fiorentino. The grounds are vast and among the olive groves and vineyards one finds our tennis court, helicopter landing, and a heated, open-air pool. Near the pool, there is also a small fitness room. Please note: as the hotel is a XIV century establishment there is no lift.
