El Castell de La Pobla de Lillet - Description

This authentic castle (637m2) with its own spa and Hammam (Turkish bath) is in the centre of the village of La Pobla de Lillet. The village is at the foot of the Catalan Pyrenees in the Alt Bergueda region. You can arrange excursions from the village to the Pedraforca Mountain, the village of Castellar de Nhug and many other interesting places. There are many examples of fine Romanesque art in the area. The La Molina ski station in Cerdanya is only 20 km away. Barcelona is around 1.5 hour away, as is Girona. You can also visit the Jardines Artigas, in the same village, created in the 20th century by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi.

The local cuisine is well worth savouring. The local delicacies such as sliced meats, cheeses and marmalades are highly recommended. And there are many good restaurants.

The castle was erected on the ruins of a fort of the Mataplana dynasty built around 1297 A.D. The beautiful original walls were kept and the floor is made of solid oak. The decor is based on pure white in order to show the character of the stone and oak to its full advantage. All rooms are very spacious. For instance, one pleasant, comfortable room is 70 m2. There is a dining room with a large table, a well equipped kitchen and 9 large bedrooms with their own bathrooms. The smallest is 20m2 and the biggest 35 m2. The water therapy area with spa and Hammam is on the ground floor. Here you can enjoy the Turkish bath, surrounded by natural stone walls and ceilings with beautiful arches. The large windows allow you enjoy a delightful view.
