Worst advice I've heard

I was browsing through a 'fashion' magazine when I was out and about the other day and an article caught my eye about skiing, someone had written in asking how to look 'hot' on the slopes.

The advice given was to go to Topshop and buy an all in one (quote - which some 'boring' people might call a skisuit )for GBP150 made from Polycotton.

And people wander why they get cold and wet.

Doesn't everyone buy their all in one's from top shop, for me it replaced C&A's :wink:

b) actually make that purchase

i normally go to tk maxx cheap cheerful warm and dry and got the whole lot for a lot less than top shop.

the top shop shopper just use the all in ones togo up in the lift to the pub have a beer at lunch and come down in the lift.

appologies to any top shop shoppers who do ski, and unlike thm we arent all a size 2 surviving on a bread stick and glass of water

Pharmacist in a very busy store, crappy day as loads of trouble, had to call security 3 times and police twice. Cant say to much about it. Too many drunks and drug addicts.

Apart from sports clothes most of my sons clothes are diesel.

At last, someone talking my language. Except for me its Tommy Hilfiger jeans or Replay.
The sizes in places like TopShop and H&M are all over the place. You have to be built like a twig to get into a medium, my son likes some of their stuff.
I am the same on the slopes. It has to be a decent brand and a good style for me, I wouldnt dream of wearing some of the garbage they sell in places like Matalan for a ski trip.
Call me a snob cos I like certain brands, but I never pay full price for them.

It should be okay, we are always a bit quieter at half term. Just got to get through Tuesday, yearly PCT audit. Confident that every-thing is in place, but one of the staff always says some-thing stupid and puts us at risk.

I also have quite a lot of stuff from howies.co.uk

Tommy Hillifiger jeans fit funny (on me).. Diesel are just right.

Never 'got' the skinny jeans thing, specially on dudes. I am pretty skinny but just can't get those thigns over my skiers thighs :lol:

Tony H, I frequently pay full price if I can't find it quickly, cheaper, else where. Probably daft but the want it-got to have it mentality!

Nor me. There are so many places I will not get clothes, Like Marks and Sparks, great for food but never for clothes. My MIL always worked for M&S, she must have spent a fortune on both of us over the years, we always secretly took them back and exchanged them for food. So glad she has retired now.

There is a C&A in Cite Europe at Calais. I went in on 31st Jan on the way home. It was just as naff as I remember when they had shops in the UK.

I haven't set foot in Topshop since I was about 15, good reason not to if they sell 'tat' like polycotton ski suits to look hot on the slopes.

As for ski gear, it has to be some form of blue in colour (see avatar) and be North Face / Helly / Eider. One of which I got from TK Maxx for a bargain and has done the job for a few years.

Off slope I love Fat Face, but only if there's a sale on.

Comfort and style can be done on the slopes these days!

Hat sounds cool to me.
Red is a colour a lot of people seem to avoid. I personally dont own anything red, apart from a ski jacket and a pair of sallos that I wear with a black jacket, I like that combination.
I love the electric blue colour, especially as sallos with a black jacket.

Dont discount red for a jacket, something nice and plain and neatly styled.

I LOVE TKMaxx. I got a Spyder jacket and slapperettes for a snip just before christmas. Salomen ski socks. Thermals. Hats. Gortex boots. Love that shop!!

Yep e-bay is great for picking up bargains too. I got a fantastic, immaculate, as new, Killy Mastertech AWT Jacket and Salopettes for a fraction of the original cost. It was worth every penny, it kept me warm, dry and snug for the whole week and is still like new.

I do not believe that is genuine Peak Performance. The logo doesnt look right, and the quality/price just doesnt appear right either. I'd steer clear.

I am noticing lots of Spyder being worn up at sunpeaks (alot of the tourists I think,nice jackets though). I wear Columbia,not so overpriced..still looks great.

I laughed ,I was at the ski shop at the mountain..saw a cute ski jacket (spyder)..thought "hey I really like this"....than I looked at the price...$924 canadian.....I thought hell no! :shock: :lol: Hubby would have a heartattack!

off to buy new ones at weekend, had my ski boots on round house for a couple of hours again each nite but my legs having been aching around where socks are cutting off blood supply so thought i better go invest in some new ones, not tube you say?

No, defo not. You ought to find some cheap and good quality socks in TK, although the couple of stores I visited recently had NO ski stuff in at all!!!! And one of them was Lakeside, Thurrock.

I can't wear thick socks at all, not even the ones that are supposed to pad you in the right places in your boots. Got some micro thin ski socks that keep me warm and do the job of not crucifying my feet, funny because the first year I got my boots (2 seasons ago) they didn't hurt at all with the thicker socks, last year they nearly crippled me so I switched to the thinner socks and my feet were quite happy. Are my feet still growing at 38? :?:

Can't remember what they're called, will check when I get home but they are almost as thin as the silk ones you can buy. I bought them in Italy last year which isn't much help is it :roll:

Your ski boots are very probably too big!

I use smartwool socks.. somehow I keep losing them though so I am down from about 5 pairs to 2 and a half (lost a single sock as well).

They are usually GBP15-20 a pair.

Sorry, bit of a blonde moment then - I skied in boots that were too big for me for a while a few years ago and I thought I was going to lose a foot - how can boots that are too big for you hurt so much?!?

ski boots fit me fine thanks, i said the only place hurting me with the tube socks on were just under my knees where there was a line from socks too tight. boots comfiest i have ever had, when i am at work i have to work 'posh' shoes therefore no socks so diddy feet

I wear salomon socks,and really like the padding in front of the leg,yet not too thick on the bottom of the foot. I once wore my riding boot socks and had such sore shin's after,plus rub.

tubes seem okay for thickness its just under the knee line it gets me, must have spuggy's ankles and horses knees lolol i know how about some lovely knee highs lol about 10ndenier barely black? or american tan.

I have got a right collection of socks these days, mainly because over te past couple of years, every time I went into TK Maxx, and they had socks in the sale, I bought some. I must have close to 10 pairs, all different makes, some Salomon, K2, Head, Lange, Horizon, Columbia....and I never paid more than GBP7 for a pair! They are all the thinner socks with the padding around feet, ankles, shins, etc and are really comfy. I cannot get on with tube socks, and had to chuck out one pair of comfy socks last season as they were too tight across my calf! I think most of these socks retail at between GBP20 and GBP30 a pair, but I just cant justify paying that.

for a pair of socks, not in this house ihave a springer with a sock fetish, dangerous ground for her, and yes i do put them in the laundry basket and put them straight away in the drawer when washed, all you lot out there thinking my house is covered in stinky socks. xx

Popped into Decathlon yesterday, their Quecha brand of thin middle layer fleeces are selling for GBP7.95 and are extremely good quality. Various colours available.

Also, ladies ski boots are on massive offers. There were some Rossignol botts down from GBP300 to GBP160, and Salomon ones on a similar deal. Just in case anyone was interested like.

TK Maxx have removed all skiwear from their stores now.

Gutted.
