sorry, totally unrelated to skiing...

could any of you learned scots recommend any good fun late night bars with music or clubs (not too heavy) in central Edinburgh? I've organised a hen weekend for the end of Jan and want to go armed with ideas.

any help greatfully received

What kind of pub, clubs, etc are you looking for?

Exactly the main reason I don't go out on a Saturday night in Edinburgh!

El Barrio on Rose street is excellent for some Dominican Salsa, margueritas and R&B grooves. Quite chilled out and relaxed and only a fiver to get in.

Garibaldi's on Hanover Street is also good for Mexican then shaking your booty

Espionage. On Victoria Street, just off the Royal Mile. Three floors with different tunes on each floor. Hen party central though, you won't be the only hen or stag party in there!

These are the "hen friendly" places in Edinburgh Most bars etc won't let a big group of lasses in as it puts the regular punters off.

You can get into these places any time - if you want something to do before hand then I would suggest;

Booking a nice spa treatment in one of the hotels
Taking a wander down the Royal Mile, nice wee shops and stuff (esp the fudge one!)

Get "salsa dancing classes"
Cocktail making class.

Have you booked your accomm yet as I can recommend the best company to use.

If you haven't booked the hotel the Scotsman in town is pretty nice...

you'd be better off with serviced apartments as you can get them right on the royal mile and you can have breakfast when you like and get the sound system on and party it up when you are getting ready.

Scotsman's quite expensive matey - the girls will want money for shopping, a few bottles of bubbly when getting ready and nice dinner. Don't waste money on a hotel where you will have your head on a pillow for a few hours a night!

Quite expensive but undeniably nice, lol

Probably is more of a 'romantic weekend away' type hotel, though.

I feel the same about London, Queen Sheba, full of bloomin edit tourists . You should be alright with us, a bunch of 30 somethings who don't wear mini skirts with no tights, boob tubes and stilettos and we don't tend to throw up on pavements either Thanks for the advice, I'll have a check into those. the salsa lessons were something I was keen to look into.

Ross, we're staying at the Hudson and picked it for it's location so don't want to travel too far.

Hirsty, not cheesy but not too cool. just a good laugh with some music involved really.

I'm going round the bride-to-be's house tonight to go through the options so I'll google everything when I get home from work.

I'm a jeans and t-shirt girl myself. although I'm very partial to a nice dress should the occasion so require

[/b]queen_sheba[b] came up with a few good selections. There is also the Jam House on Queen Street which is a live music venue aimed at more (but not too) respectible clientele. It is owned by Jules Holland. I haven't been there myself but it gets good reviews and my girly has been there for a hen do which went well.

If you fancy a pub crawl I would recommend Rose Street - several different bars and it doesn't have the No Hen/Stag Party rule of the Grassmarket.

A good place to look on the interweb for tips and reviews is The List Magazine
