All mountain skis

I am considering getting hold of a second pair of skis so that I have something more all round to play on. Ellistine was bombing around on some Salomon Thrusters that he got from his local dry slope for next to nothing, and said they were really good fun on the piste as well as off it, and now that I am developing more of an appetite to steeps, moguls and offpiste I would like to find something suitable.

My current skis are fine, but are more suited to pistes. Blizzard X Cross 10 at 114/68/97 on 157cm length (I always prefered a shorter ski, and I am only 5 foot 7) but I am tending to go with what Bandit said and look for something wider in the waist.

So far, I have been looking at skis such as Scott Patrol, Salomon N Threat Uni, K2 Silencer, and Salomon Flyer 1080.

Those in the know, what these be any god for me for what I want them for, ie general all round skiing on and off piste, probably 75% on piste and 25% off piste, but possibly doing more of the off as I improve.

I have had my eye on a pair of Scott Neo's as they appear to be the perfect ones according to all write ups, but they dont appear to be available 2nd hand much, and dont come cheap either!

Any suggestions greatly welcomed.

And Bandit - I am waiting for the "I told you so...."

Re:All mountain skis

The only one I know about there is the Silencer and it is soft like butter. Seriously soft. Will be almost useless on piste so unless you are hitting the park...

I think that you have a 'piste' ski you should go a bit fatter (something more off piste orientated).

Scott Mission is a pretty soft ski which would do the trick, not sure what lengths they come in but a 175 or so would not be too long for you. Every man and their dog had a pair last season so should be able to pick up some second hand.

Re:All mountain skis

Been on ebay, and seen the following:

K2 Apache Crossfire (seem to be a lot of these about)
Dynastar 8000 Legend
Salomon Flyer

All ending soon and at cheap prices, but I dont know if any of these are any good.

I dont intend to play in the park, just attack more varied terrain including powder (when I find some), offpiste, moguls and steeps instead of the usual pistes.

Re:All mountain skis

Eureka, we have a J2skiers conversion...He's seen the light, there's a whole mountain to ski

Yes, I was looking at the Legend 8000 as a possible for you. How about considering..

A pair of Monsters, without rail bindings (they are too heavy), for example

http://www.shopwiki.co.uk/detail/d=08%2F09_HEAD_MONSTER_IM_82_WITH_MOJO_12_BINDINGS/

A pair of Neo's would suit you well though.

My OH uses Legend 8000's, he's 165 tall and uses...165 He loves them. It's a wood core ski, and they are well respected.

Re:All mountain skis

Is j2ski actually a forum for 'smaller skiing men'?

Soon everyone will see the light and move to Fat skis
