I thought maybe a bit of help for us "Queens English" challenged Americans over here :mrgreen: 1st: I Googled "piste" found that means "Trail". 2nd: Wanderer said "I practically started a row on the forum last year" I don't know if "row" is a typo or means something like "riot". Over here "row" means "to row a boat" or "place objects in a row" 3rd: "Credit Crunch Caution - or Sod It I'm going skiing?" I would guess "sod it" means something like "screw it", but I am just guessing. nah, had one here in germany for the first time in 4 years last week! i am far classier, a bottle or 3 of decent spanish red, a warm fire and a good woman is more my style :wink: 

hehe that analagy of a curry really made me giggle too as I am also from Newcastle and yes I often go out in the middle of winter with only a thin strappy top on!! dont ask me why, it is just the "done" thing, you would just look out of place with a top coat on! I am not a lover of Currys though, much rather have a kebab!!  

all the talk of curry made me go out for a jalfrezi last night! any tips on newcastle would be welcome, I'm arranging a hen weekend up there for next feb. Is it obligatory to go out with short skirts, strappy tops and no coat?

Rose I think it is hard to seperate a taste for good wine from the taste for the good foods that wine normally accompanies. For me that started out by eating good warmed French bread with some brie or pate. Choose a wine that's light fruity and young to start, maybe an Aussie shiraz. Follow that with a simple desert of 70/80% cocoa chocolate. Each piece washed down with sips of a merlot. Soon you'l' be hooked and looking for more food/wine experiences. Trencher

Ramdomly I read that in one large town in England, they have banned Santa Claus as it is not multi-cultural/multi-religious enough. He is now know only as 'Christmas Man'!!! All we know, is he is called Christmas Man Apologies to a lot of the Americans as Top Gear references may or may not be as amusing. 

You are either racist, or not. I confess that it wasn't until a week prior to the US elections, and then, only when it was repeatedly pointed out by political "observers", that I recognised that Obama was a black person. It genuinely hadn't occurred to me. So many people in the UK have different colour of skins, and we are so used to that being the case, why would one think that this is an issue.
