My 18-month-old ensures I get plenty of practice at the 3 metre sprint at the moment. The "Stop-the-toddler Triathlon" also includes the Stair-gate Hurdle and Catch-the-crockery... does that count?

Otherwise, a skier's edge for the legs, tennis and Karting when I can (anyone here visit Buckmore Park?).

Only five months until the snows come again! 8)

Oh I remember the "stop the toddler triathlon" although many years ago. We generally surf, In fact we were surfing before we were ski-ing. Living by the sea its quite convenient, although we do head to Cornwall in the summer. Still have a love of tennis although I dont play so much, having a son who is a professional tennis coach, Wimbledon tickets seem never to be a problem.

Ice skating is my once a week (at least) all year round "exercise". Not a hockey game, but just going around in circles with the lucky retired people for a couple of hours.
Roller blading is supposed to be a good cross training exercise for skiing (or so I've read) but the areas suited to this are usually too hilly or the ground is too rough. Must give it a more dedicated try this summer. I really don't want to break anything in order to get in better shape for the winter.

Last summer I skied once or twice a week, every week at the local dry slope.

This year I've not been any where near the place - except for the odd chat.

This summer on the other hand shall be mostly spent on our new sailing boat. I'm expecting a great tan this year - from the neck up.

Hi Gareth,

I did the same in 1983. The knee was immobilised for six weeks. After nine weeks I was back on the squash courts and I have ski-ed every year since. Now that I am retired I am able to ski for two months each year. Fingers crossed- so far so good. Of course we are all different and I may just have been very lucky. Anyway good fortune with your recovery and future skiing.

Gareth, I would agree with Geoff in that everyone's different. I've heard of a few people who can ski or do other sports without their acl. Unfortunately, it's not always the case. A lady in the knee physio class that I go to has been trying to avoid the op but, after 5 months of hard work, she has given in and decided that she has to have it if she ever wants to play netball or swim breaststroke to the best of her ability again!

Someone I ski with has no acl. Despite being super fit and running marathons, it does affect her skiing. when properly angulating there is a lot twisting force on the knee. From what I can see, strength and determination may not be enough to feel comfortable in that position.

I've just joined an all chick hockey team! Tis fun, but I like doing "hockey stops" on my skis rather then skate; I've also began (trying to) jog and or run as well as bike like a madman. I'm also trying to find a job at a local ski shop.
