peisey-vallandry info anyone???

Hi,

Just wandering whether anyone here has any information/experience of stopping in peisey-vallandry, Les Arcs? I`m booking a chalet for 12 people for the 2nd year running, and have been offered what looks like a great place, mainly because of the ski in/ out location and the proximity to the lift and ski school for a a couple of the group.

The main things i`m wanting to know is what the apres ski is like? I know peisey-vallandry is a small resort, so no doubt only a couple of bars, but is it an easy trek to a more lively area? Also, is it well linked to the main runs in Les Arcs?

Any help appriciated, ive got 11 people on at me everyday about getting somewhere sorted.

cheers.

I most certainly would not choose a resort based on it having "good apres-ski" as what defines "good" is different to everyone...and I'm there for the skiing :D

surely 12 of you can create your own apre'...

I prefer skiing the in france, but the aprey is not bang on after the ski... seems that in france everyone scurrys off the last run (some without a single beer!!) to their apartments to eat and sleep then get up again and out after 10pm... It can be good that suits you tho.

I do prefer the Austrian style of passing out by 11pm and waking up fresh.

I have been to les arcs 1850 and that was like a council estate in Woolwich.. except you car was safe !

Thanks for the replies everyone. We will be making our own apres ski most of the time, but i just wanted to make sure there is the odd bar within walking distance for a change of scenery! generally, we only have 1 or 2 good nights out in the week.

Skiing is the main thing, but i`m happy with the location of the chalet and the runs, as there seems to be plenty to suit every skiier in our group.

pleasing 11 different people is a nightmare!

Re:peisey-vallandry info anyone???

Apparently vallandry has a couple of good bars and restaurants, but on the whole plan peisey and vallandry are known as relatively quiet family orientated villages. one big advantage though is that New Generation ski school are based there and are supposed to be brilliant.

I stayed in 1800 which lacked charm but I got to know it quite well (!) and built up quite a love for it. a couple of good bars and some fantastic restaurants.

The skiing is great in les arcs and very well linked, I plan to get back there one day. you'll have a blast

Thanks caron,

That`s basically what i thought it would be like. I`ve gone ahead and booked the chalet, as a couple of bars is fine for us, we`re normally pretty knackered after a full days skiing anyway. I don`t suppose you know how well Vallandry is linked to the main runs in les arcs do you? the piste maps make it look relativly simple, but from experience, i know these can be missleading!!

it is easy to get to main les arcs, it is a very good ski area. The resturant on 'belvedere' was my fave sun trap for lunch. the snow park above it is really good too and has it's own lift.

its ideal location if the vanoise express is open for 2009, i would recomment getting at least a day pass to la plagne especially for the better skiers who will get max skiing in 1 day extension pass. try to go to Champagny...

les arcs will have more than enough skiing for you all, but la plagne is def worth checking out.

the links are easy peasy. a couple of examples - my husband and two boys left 1800 one afternoon up the charmetogger, skied down to vallandry, went up the vallandry lift, skied back down to vallandry because they missed a turning (they're lost without me), back up the vallandry (or grizzly) lift and back down to 1800, it took them between an hour and a half and two hours if memory serves. On day one we all met in 1800 at midday after our lessons, had two drinks and then went up the transarc and got over to 1950 in time for lunch.

as for trying to please everyone, I know the feeling very well. I guarantee your friends won't be disappointed with les arcs (or la plagne)

happy days 8)

Hi Rob,

Peisey-Vallandry is really easy access to Les Arcs, just one lift to take.
You also are at the foot of the Vanoise express linked to La PLagne, so plenty of skiing (425 kms of slopes !).

As for bars and restaurants, there is plenty of choice (Mont Blanc, Jimmy's, La Vache, Flying squirrel...) and for the restaurants, there is not one I wouldn't recommend, they are all nice food and nice people, different prices and meals.

I think you'll enjoy the resort, it's a good fun and the pistes are just great and it's snow sure aswell (snowed yesterday down to 1400m !).

Let us know how it was !
