hi can u take ski boots on the plane as hand lugage never noticed before and cases are chocker,and dont really want some daft lad chucking my boots about with all the cases!cheers daz

It's not a daft question at all This winter has seen airports and carriers refuse to have ski boots and ski helmets carried as hand luggage. The problem for everyone traveling is...it's not all airports and carriers
If you are traveling with some of the UK T.O's they have issued notices to travellers banning boots and helmets on grounds of safety (yes, really, I know 2 litres of whisky probably weighs more and would do more damage but think of the profits eh)
If you take your boots as carry on, then you risk losing them forever at securidee.

Perhaps pack your hand luggage with clothes from your suitcase and fill up the space with your boots.

it all depends really, in America you generally can because they are open and can be checked easily although some airlines wont let you, your best bet would be to call the airline, and ask them ahead of time, to see what procedures are required. I'm not sure what other customs are in place in other countries but your best bet like i said would be to call the airline ahead of time.

One thing to remember, your airline may say yes, but then you have to get through UK/foreign airport security. Ski boots are reported as banned at Grenoble Airport, no reason given, logical or otherwise. If you decide to take the risk, get any guidance issued to you in writing

i did forget about that fact, call the airline, then call the airport and talk to the security people for that airline, and for the airport in general, ask if there is anything you can do to allow those on the plane, or possibly if there is any special accomodations they can make for you and your equipments if not, the last and not possibly the greatest option but feasible would be to have them shipped to the destination you are off to, via a package shipping company, fed-ex, dhl, whatever you use, and call the hotel, resort whatever place your going to be staying at to have them hold the package for you, that may be an option, it all depends on how customer service oriented they are.

The possibility of getting them sent ahead by a package company is well worth investigating. I do know that there are a couple of companies who do deliver suitcases to/from resorts, but the prices have always seemed to me.

With the era of all hold baggage now being charged for, they may become more popular, and prices may drop with bigger volumes.

Thank you all i did ring airline yesterday ,vague to say the least.i am going to canada for two weeks on friday so you can imagine the cases,but i think its best to find away to get them in as some of you said its if customs take them off me cheers for your help daz,any info on banff or jasper would be nice thanks again

I was told yes by Sleazy Jet and Edinburgh airport. But on arrival at the airport was told by the orange fleeced woman that I couldn't. Taking a helmet was fine though.

Wear them ! Yes wear them on plane!!! Just get some slippers which you can put on once on plane!

No regulations about NOT wearing ski boots on! He did it!

I tested his solution going to Utah and guess what! Sure you get stares...Sure you get "what the...." but it works. Once on plane I just took out some thin, light fur lined CROCs and smiled!!!!

This solution would likely result in the passenger being denied boarding by security, if travelling through an airport which has the ban in place. There is no logic being applied to the current crop of restrictions, and it seems to change on a weekly basis, as travellers report in after flying. I have read elsewhere of skiers getting through with touring boots on their feet, but not this winter.

I`ve never seen anyone allowed to take boot bags in the aircraft,But regarding my kids helmets we pack them in the middle of the ski bag with all the ski gear packed around them.I`ve also done the same thing with my boots years ago,It saves waiting around for one less bag as well.

I think Chambery is going to be a no-no, read about a refusal at check in recently, can't remember where though. As for Gatwick, I think their rules are set by which way the wind is blowing

Flew to and from Austria from Bournemouth with Austrian Airlines and they didn't bat an eyelid with boots as hand luggage.

Same with Flybe from Southampton to and from Bern-Belp.
