Livigno - anyone been?

Hi, I'm off to Livigno for 2 weeks (woo hoo!) in early March, I am VERY excited, as I always am when my annual skiing trip approaches, has anyone got any hints and tips, places to eat, favourite mountain restaurants etc.

Oh, and is there an Italian version of tartiflete? (spelling, sorry).

Thanks!

Re:Livigno - anyone been?

Hiya, i went last year in March and going again this year 15th March. Loved every minute of it. I didn't really pay attention to the names of places so im not going to be much use to you there but we ate out in a different restaurant every night and all of them were good.

There are 2 main skiing areas in Livigno (either side of the valley) separated by a free bus service (or a trek across the bottom). My only recommendation would be to use both and dont get on the wrong bus as one of 3 coloured routes goes miles out the way!! You have got plenty of time to explore both sides. Last year I only got a taste of the Mottolino side due to the group I was with so spent most of my time on the Carosello side.

On the Mountain (Carosello side) theres a little German bar at the top of lift 25-26. Very small and very cosy, I enjoyed it in there for food (daytime) and drink. You dont get more than 25ish people in so it makes a change from the hustle and bustle of the top hill places.

Anyway Im no expert on the place but expect to love it like i did last year.

Found this forum for it you could check out:

Enjoy your trip, I may even see you there (probably cut me up on the slope and send me flying!)

Thanks for that, I have been studying various websites and have found out a fair bit, it's just nice to know what people think who have actually been.

I love little restaurants like that one, it sounds lovely, will definately be hunting that one down!

We leave on the day you arrive - hope you have fun!

Hi, Great place and not too expensive 2 main ski areas separated by the shops etc great runs and scenery, skidoo's are a must on the frozen lake at the end of town, transfer from airport was a bit on the long side, but well worth it when you get there, some good bars and places to eat.

Re:Livigno - anyone been?

Most charter flights go into Verona, Milan, Venice, so the transfer can be hellishly long, twice as long as the flight sometimes. Thats what always makes me turn the page in the brochure when I see Livigno.

I'm sure I flew into Innsbruck when we went to Livigno. Went through some tunnel and which shortens the transfer massively.

Found this on another website;

Amazing slopes and well worth the 5 hours transfer from Bergamo. One tip I would give is that Inghams fly into Innsbruck which is only 3.5 hrs transfer.

We went to Livigno for our second ever ski trip. It's amazing how little I remember of the skiing considering it was only 3 or 4 years. I think a week of ski school can do that to a person :-)

Yeah flying to Innsbruck makes a big difference to transfer times but sometimes the flights are all gone and you gotta take the 5hrs!

Once you there though its great! Couldn't imagine being somewhere were you cant step out of the apartment straight onto the slopes.

Re:Livigno - anyone been?

Hi - thanks again for all the tips - luckily we are flying to Innsbruck so the journey doesn't seem so bad. 5 hours is a bit much!

I read somewhere that it's a bit out of the way for many people to bother with going there for the weekend which makes it's quieter - would anyone agree with that?

Re:Livigno - anyone been?

We flew in to Milan which is a 4 hour transfer so a good book is highly recommended.

However apart from that Livigno is a fantastic resort. Ive been twice now and would certainly recommend to others.

The obvious thing is the cost when your there, the resorts tax free so drinks/ food etc is pretty cheap. We were fortunate to have ski to the door which in Livigno is really hard to find!! stayed at a place called Casa something with Airtours.

If you havnt got this the bus's can get a bit annoying.

Apres - the lively ones I remember were Gullivers and Marcos, theres also a night club which you generally need to get a taxi to. We went keen on the idea however when we got there we couldn't believe how packed it was and turned into a good night. Be warned though its pretty expensive. You have to pay to get in and then buy drinks tokens at a seperate desk (I think the lowest amount you can buy is four drinks!)

The food is fantastic again I cant remember the names but ate at three fantastic restaurants in the centre of town. One is like a beach hut you have to climb some stairs to - best meal ive ever had.

Apart from that you can also take the Snow Mobiles out on the frozen lake and go to St Mortiz for the day.

Hope this helps enjoy your trip!
