5 Mistakes 30% of Women Do!!!!

Can we all agree that going on a ski holiday as couples is stressful! All the hidden problems, issues, and unresolved “items” come out in a ski holiday. Try as you may to push these issues under the table at home, the mountain fresh air, the snow and wine attract these irritants to come out! This post is to help women ( a minority as you have noted) avoid some common problems our social ski sociologist have note over the years! It will make your holiday better and perhaps even help your marriage! 1. The Preparation Phase Issue You have waiting for months for this holiday! You planned all aspects of the trip for days! You husband/partner has visited the resort site many many times, skiing in his mind all the trails. If he is a typical male he has already established a skiing schedule for runs to take! In short he is like a horse that has been in the barn all winter! This is his first trip out to pasture! Taking lots of time to put on make –up and trying on all your ski suits will raise his stress level! Stopping to talk to a long lost friend in the hall will raise it again! As you get your skis from locker, you realize you left your ski boots in room! Now watch his veins near temple !!! Once he comes back with boots ,, your realize it will be cold and you need mittens! Notice twitch near left eye! You have skis, boots and mittens! Time to put on lip protection! Those goggles need cleaning! Where is that spray? At this time ( 10 AM) his friends he was supposed to meet at bottom of lift are all gone! He is starting to drool and babble! You ask him to take camera so that mommy will see door to hotel! A long silence …..He is just about to turn, when you say, “if you loved me” you would take this picture! &&&####@@@@****????%%% 2. The Slope Behavior Phase We all agree that men and women do not see the same reality! We all agree that women and men do not drive the same way! Why then do we insist to have them ski with their husbands or boyfriends! It is a no win situation! If the women are better than the men, it becomes a male ego deflating ski day! If the man thinks he is better than the women, it becomes a couple de-flatting day! The man will insist to “show” women how to ski! The passive/active roles take form! In 30 minutes the women will bring out all the things HE can not do! Like cleaning the toilet! Like clean up the kitchen! Like driving slowly! In 45 minutes together on slope, she is planning what she will do to him after supper! Technique,,,,, she will show him what poor technique HE has! A step by step commentary will follow! With perhaps some well chosen tips on how he should be better and how EASY it can be!!!! In 2 hours the final straw comes out, in a particular steep icy section, “if you loved me you would never have taken me here” &&&####@@@@!!!!!*****))))((((%%% 3. The Chair Lift Phase The second most dangerous place to be with your wife/girlfriend in a ski resort is on a quad ski lift! Somehow men intuitively accept the premise that you “never know who is on the lift with you”, so we are careful what you say! Also if wife/girlfriend is seated on the far side of lift,,you can not give her non-verbal cues to stop talking! So this is what happens! Initial chit chat ( weather, slopes, runs, snow) then the serious talk starts! You have then 40-60 seconds to impress your fellow skiers! Soon she is taking about the great house you have which was bought with parent’s money hidden from tax people! Then of course you must mention that Audi quatro you got from a friend of a friend who “works” in fast moving cars! I mean fast moving on the market place! !!!! Meanwhile you notice that your skiing partners are taking notes of all that!! Try as you may to get her attention, she is now on your trip to those tax havens where you have just opened an account! Seems there are more family secrets told on a chair lift than in a confessional! That cool clean air seems to interact with brain neurons! It can be a long long ride up! I now expect a wife to tell me all sorts of “family secrets” while riding up,,,but what really surprises me is when she begins to get personal about her husband and she begins with, “and if he really loved me,,,he would……” &&&&####@@@@!!!!!)))((((%%%%% 4. The Evening Phase You have learned your lesson so you go and ski with your buddies while she is taking lessons in an “all together “girls” class”! You discover powder stashes, in hidden sections of the resort and so you ski all day non-stop! The group has raised your skiing level a “quantum” level in one day, but you begin to feel the tighs aching! The back is getting sore from all that powder! The pure mountain air has cleaned your brain out and now it needs rest! Serious rest! As you enter to room, half in a coma state, she announces that she has organized a dance party at “Chez Henri’s”! A discussion leads to heated words,,,,and ends with, “if you really really loved me” as you fade into a slow trance on the soft soft soft floor! 5.The Shopping Phase We did agree at the beginning that men and women do not think alike! You did agree! So this last issue should not be a surprise! Men feel that having had a great day if they; skied so fast their eyes need eye drops, skied so steep that they must visit cardiologist soon, skied so much powder that their nostril are full of snowflakes! Some women? Seems the weather just is never “acceptable”! Too cold on lifts! Too much wind at top! Too much snow! Too much sun for face! Etc…. So the serious work begins, finding that deal in the ski shop! That Bogner outfit seen in Vogue for only $875! A 40 % reduction!!! That heated set of ski pants with 4 settings and even a diode! The day is made when she has “bargained” the sales person to include a free Turtle Fur neck warmer from Stowe! You have to hear all the great deals found while eating supper! The piece de resistance comes when she announces that she found a great deal for you and had it put away for tomorrow morning! You will have to cancel your meeting with buddies while she brings you to try those fur lined ski boots! While you protest…she looks at you with a tear in eye and says, “if you really really loved me…..” Now be honest ladies and men! You have all experienced one of these “situations” Now if you really really loved her,,,you would print this post , seal it in an envelope and slip it in her purse! Whatever you do DO NOT print my name!

Salski, You have a valid point! Your comment "bounced" around my brain and I wondered why? Then it hit me,, you know that "Eureka" moment! You had found a vital truth,,,,the process of selection a mate and a ski has some "overlap"! I will start a new post, in your honor asking how skiers can relate selecting a ski and a wife/husband! Should be interesting! See what you have started Salski!

The problem is: Most people DO pick a wife the same way they pick skis! "That is really good looking, and the shape is to die for! My friends will all be jealous!" What they should be thinking is: "Are the graphics that important? Will that shape really be the same in 10 years? Will I be able to trust it when the trail gets rough and steep? Will it be something I can bond with? Is it the perfect one for ME? How well can she cook. . ." Ok, so, that one is hard to compare! :) Not that appearance doesn't matter, but function and long term joy should be foremost. Maybe that is why I am still single, and love Volkl? :D

Having seen pavs toast holder, i would bet skis that cook wouldn't be too far awy!! ( a little project for you pav) Your selection comparrison is awesome dshenberger! only 30% of women but i'm in at least one of the above situations 100% of the time!! - not just when skiing! It would be interesting to see if a female forum member could find 5 things wrong in a man on a ski holiday? I doubt it!

Ok here goes it Souldrive, 1 Men constantly talking techie stuff to impress each other and the ladies. ( to be honest we girls couldnt give a monkeys ) 2 Tirelessly showing each other their tackle and comparing how good it is :roll: 3 Showing off as to how fast they can ski, and how much time they have knocked off their last run of the day.YAWNNNNNNNNNN. 4 Dragging you out of bed at 7 o clock for breakfast coz HE has to be first IN queue for the gondola. :( 5 Blaming his tackle for his poor performance :twisted: NOW WERE HAVE WE HEARD THAT BEFORE GIRLS. pav, there's a 6th for the list, women always find a bad moment lower the tone! Ha Ha, AJ, your 5 male flaws i suppose are quite accurate but in a mans mind, these constitute a great holiday. Thanks for the feedback, the next project would be to film an all mens ski hol and an all womens, compare and contrast the 2 psychologically and physically (we could get into who the better skiers are too but we already know its the men )) and produce a doccumentary for channel 4 - I use C4 as an example because the quality of C4 programming is relatively low and they'd probably give us a slot. I volunteer myself and my camera to go on the lads hol. Pav keep hold of the samsung it may yet come in handy! (BTW if i hadn't spent so much on skiing this year already i'd have loved to take the sports cam off your hands)

Soul Drive, As far as Sportscam,,I have fixed up a great "system" since I do not need braces I had! I cut up the two brace sections and had video type universal clips installed with pop rivets! I now have cam om my thigh which can focus on boots and skis! great shots! Ellistine is the one who :inspired" me with his videos! Thanks Ellistine! I also took an old Ski Patrol chest vest and modified it so That I can have video at chest level! Again great shots! It is amazing how skiers once they see themselves skiing understand their mistakes! Truly seeing oneself skiing helps in progressing to expert level!

I'm becoming a little concerned by some of the regulars round these parts... from a quick reading... Adele apparently wants video of the male regulars in the snow with their tackle on display... :shock: ...are you sure you're on the right website? :lol: As for funding... there's a 2 Euro piece and a paper-clip on my desk - will that do? Oh wait, there's more...

I'm just rollin with the punches,AJ. As for xscape, my ego was not too big last time i was there. Must have bailed at least 8 times tring to jump!! All the bar area were watching and i think one of the freestyle pro's may have got my worst attempt at clearing the gap on camera, keep watching "you've been framed!" still have a bruise on my leg from 4 weeks ago when i landed on my ski!! It can only get better!!

I often have misgivings just before I post some "observations"! I hope skiers will understand that there is not a ounce/miligram of negativity towards women, men, husbands wifes, dogs, cats, etc....on my part! I really do not wish to compare men / women in any contexts since that really is impossible! They are unique beings! Thank goodness! Now for those comments about video on thighs! I am learning to use this method and it is so interesting to see skier's reactions! I am now making a list of skier reactions to video cameras! A future interesting posting is coming!!!! Meanwhile back to my learning how to video tape while skiing!

I have to say, sometimes at the start when you are next to go, behnd a female skier the view is a lot more interesting. You're trying to look anywhere but at the skier bent over in front of you. :oops: Trencher

bandit, You lead a dangerous life! You have waved a "challenge" towards Trencher!!! Careful! You do know he does not use poles!!! Something must be "helping" him keep his balance! If you know anything about nature,,the cheetah uses his tail to counter-balance his fast quick moves when attacking and following prey! I have over the years analyzed Trencher's many pictures and determined ( after blowing up pictures) that he use the same technique! That is why he is so fast and quick! No one can follow him! Now if only we had a video of the skier cheetah Trencher........

Admin, you can take your finger off the delete button, challenge not accepted. I live in America after all (actually I was going to say, that's why I don't ski with poles, who wants to ski with three of them )). On my first trip over here, touring around Wisconsin (you know it from "Happy Days", not changed much) with my wife (who is a local) we stopped at a puplic swimming beach on a small lake. It's 30 odd degrees and humid so we go swimming. My wife changes in a portapotty, while I change in the car. I'm walking to the beach and I hear my wife calling. she had forgotten that I would be wearing a normal euro men's costume (a speedo in the US). In rural Wisconsin, if want want to be thought some kind of pervert weirdo, wear a speedo to a small town beach. I could feel the eyes bulging as I noticed ALL the men and boys were wearing shorts type trunks. Could just imagine the sheriff turning up to arrest me. Talking of weird things here, a word of warning to those who holiday here. Public urination is a sex offence in many States. There are people who appear on sex offenders list and have to register with the police for the rest of their lives because they took a piss on the way home from the bar. Trencher

In France particularly, Speedo style trunks are mandatory in many public and resort pools. Shorts style trunks are banned. And don't even mention the clothing etiquette for saunas. I can imagine the good folk of rural Wisconsin having a collective embolism over that :mrgreen:

Public urination is pretty well a way of life in France and no-one takes much notice,......which is why the phrase "Don't eat the yellow snow" is really important. Another reason for the habit is some ski resorts facilities charging 1 euro for a P :shock: Not all of Europe adopts the same behaviours (thank goodness) :D So Trencher, after a good night on the beer.....are you :twisted:

Pavelski, You're hanging around with the wrong chicks. Admittedly it's probably only around 5% of us, but there are some women who spend more time in 45 degree couloirs than planning the skiing disco and losing their mittens. We can be found in Chamonix, Jackson and where there are no lifts. Work on your selection criteria please!

A comment about the women I ski with. In all my skiing life I have gone skiing with many women, but I have skied with all day with only three women. Note the all day term! I am preparing another story about one of these three women! I admire her, I think of her all the time when I ski and she is first and above all a great skier! My comments about these 5 mistakes, is following my comments about mistakes men do! My training/education has "forced" me to observe people and what they do! Many times their behavior renders me "speechless"! I just want to share what I observe, in the hope that some skiers will avoid ski sins like bringing in skis into a hoteal lobby or ski lunch area. When I think I have seen the most dangerous, most idiotic behavior along comes Bandit with a picture of a car with skis sideways,,to out-do my comments! Mike comes out with a story about parents placing young skiers in danger or Ellistine sends me a video with,,,,,,! Just hope it helps some "new" skier know the unwritten rules and ski manners!
