Item 6 : Polar Fleece Jacket Quiz

There is a series of events called the FIS races or World Cup Races in which the very best ski racers from every nation meet to compete. These events typically occur between November to March.

However there was a special "exception" in which this event was held in August just once.

What year did this exceptional event occur and why ?

Funny thing about the location of this event. Some friends and I have a deal of going there. Which ever of us "win" a lottery, these winnings will take us for some great skiing!! :lol: :lol:

To this day, it remains as the only alpine world championship contested in the ...................... It took place well out of the established season, nearly five months before the first World Cup season, which began in early January .............

No, Mike, this is not what the question says. The question actually says things like "exceptionally and "just once" event was held in August (not in some unique place) - this is not true. 4 different years the season started in August. And there is not a single "unique" place either if what you suggested was the case, there seem to be two of them where event was held just once - in consequitive years too. So not unique whatever the reason was. If the event was held in August at least in 4 different years that should make the question redundant whatever the case in a particular year was.

The event I am referring to is an FIS sanctioned event ! It was a special event and never ever repeated !

you still haven't stated the question correctly:) If you mean the World Ski Championship - it's a regular event, not a special one. And the answer why it was held in one place or another is probably similar to the answer to why next summer Olympics is being held in Brazil..:) No bid deal, WC season also started in August a few times. If you mean some other FIS "sanctioned" event, plenty of them regularly held in SH and coinsidentally in August. I think I know the answer but your question is incorrect.

I hope this helps you in your search. Please feel free to comment if this clarification is "acceptable".

First a small comment about "fuzzy" question.
Several persons have written about skiing "history". Depending on authors those events varied. Bandit was very correct to note the differences in events. Verbier you also were correct in noting "lack of precision", so I contacted the ski resort in question and received the "correct" information from one of the organizers of this special and unique event.

Once you find out the event and resort, you will discover a "cliff-hanger" story behind this story. Tragedy, intrigue, conflict and great personal courage of one man. A great skier who risked his personal fortune to have this event in his country.

What WORLD CUP SKI event happened just once in a country in August.
Name country and year.

The key word Verbier is just once.

If nothing else ..... the J2Ski followers will be always known as a knowledgeable bunch ! :D

The history of hills and equipment development is so interesting that when the day comes that I can no longer ski, I know my ski interest will remain strong and busy as there is always so much to read and learn.

Whether or not my reply to question #6 remains valid or not, I did learn a lot about the location through a most interesting story. Yes tragedy, intrigue and dedication were all involved. It is all about the learning (when it can't be "all about the snow")!!

And yes ... still stuck in the honey like a fly, on Question 2. Mr.W .... you have a lot of posts to check ! :shock: No idea for what I'm searching - even though a few things did look promising at one point.
