The amusing ski photo thread

As everyone seems to be in a grumpy post skiing season mood, I've decided to dream up a light hearted thread to keep us all smiling. :mrgreen:

Wibbling is permitted, nay encouraged. Amusing photos please...with a brief note or caption if you wish.

I'm sorry if you've seen this one before, but I don't have many ski photos :oops:

I thought this was very funny because the car park at Meribel (Saturday evening 7th January 2012) looked like a car cemetery there was so much snow!

People were having trouble locating their own cars under the snow, and then they had to dig them out before they could drive home :shock:

We spotted some tins of food at the local supermarket in Norway. Not quite sure what was on offer. Maybe we should have gone for it! (bit like a foodie lucky dip)

I found this little critter buried in the glacier at the top of the Jungfraujoch..

And this is my friend Peter on the ice on the Bow River in Banff..

And this was him shortly after :shock:

I don't think you'd ever find out who it was, unless they owned up to it, and most likely they were only trying to be funny, like Icy.

I'm sure no-one really wants you banned Ian.

There are still quite a lot of people reading our posts. I had a look just now and the Wibble thread has had 14,000 viewings :shock:

You are correct, and he was stuck there for quite a while!

It was actually from 2009.

We went there the following year too and again stayed in the Nordic. We all found Grandvilara brilliant as we were all complete novices. We went to Soldeu itself last year as that made the Pas de la Casa area more accessible.

Went to Austria this year, but would happily revisit Grandvilara.

She is a Brit, but gained her ski instructor qualification in Austria, is fluent in six languages, has lived all over Europe, but currently lives in Austria, works with the Winter Olympic committee, is one of my best ski buddies, a seriously, seriously, fast skier, dead heated with me in a race down the Marbachjoch in 2min 40sec for a slightly over three and a half km run, (we beat the head instructor), can out-party anyone, and has buckets of money.

Oh, and when she loses the daft brown jacket, errm, nay bad......

Apart from that, she is pretty ordinary, really.

Blimey, i don't think i'd dare try that - even for a funny pic.
I would be worried that some jobsworth would catch me and all hell break loose. I'm sure they would find i way to imply i was tampering with security kit and therefore must be plotting to bring down a snow jet.

After we realised we were not going anywhere for 12 hours, we bedded down for the night. The baggage carousel became a dorm, and we found a disused part of the arrivals hall. The security thought we were mental, but politely woke us up at 5am and asked us to move!

I can laugh about this now! If you look carefully you see I only have one ski on, the other is about 100 meters below. And yes it is that steep...

I couldn't even manage that on a gentle slope outside a cafe - when I tried it I skidded off and landed flat on my face (luckily without hurting myself or anyone else) :lol:

Andy, all you have to do is hold the camera level, and all your worries disappear :roll: Mind you, I would like to know if you managed to miss that rock you now seem to be heading for :twisted:

Jesus Christ......that looks VERY steep, is it just the camera angle or was it that bad? The othe pics don't look so bad.

:shock: :shock: Noo! In no way was I suggesting that Andy had rotated the original image, if you look at the picture you can see that the signs all say it is as steep as it looks. I simply made a "funny" adjustment as it is the funny picture thread.

I stand corrected, on closer inspection I noticed the ski tracks would have been above Andy in FQs pic & they are not, so it would seem Andy's pic is kosher, personally I would not see this scenario as amusing, quite the reverse in fact :evil:

Brooksy - when I first looked at Andy's photo my brain couldn't accept that he'd been trying to ski down something as steep as that, and I did wonder if he'd rotated the picture. But when I looked more carefully I could see that he had indeed been trying to ski down a precipice :shock:

But it is reassuring to know he had someone with him (the one who took the photograph), and obviously he survived the incident because happily he is still here to tell us all about it :D

There were 5 of us plus our guide, you aren't allowed to go there without a guide. The steep bit is right up the top just below the list.
