Sleeps to Ski Time 2012/13

As the 2012/2013 season is almost over and definitely over for many lets start looking forward to 2012/2013. Im booked.

279 sleeps to Les Arcs.

And the moment after i booked i went back to check something and the price had gone up by GBP350. Either i was just in time or my booking reduced supply and hence up went the price.

Too many sleeps to ???? Still researching, and waiting for 2013 ski resort book to arrive
(recommended by the one and only Tony H) Final checks and all that !! DIY- Bristol flights look good don't know whether to hang out for London. Well done Snapzz for actually booking was looking at Valloire got carried away with many blues for me and cute ski in and out village but then remembered I am going with Mr B not enough for him.

I have based my first trip as leaving at 4 am on the 13th, and my countdown is currently at.. 291 days, 10 hours, 48 minutes, 35 seconds

Big debate going on in our household where to go next year....... I would like to go back to the PDS
so much skiing yet to do there, and Mrs W was talking about Montgenevre which I'm not too sure about. Mind you it always ends up in changing by the time september comes around.

MonteRosa it is. Not booked yet but looking like being the destination for January.
Really excited about it as its somewhat untouched and relatively unknown to the UK market.
Cheap prices on the slopes and in resort, plus its Italy, but with a superb snow record being up close to Mont Blanc and the other big peaks around there.

The choice is between Champoluc (not Cervinia) and Gressoney. Those going in our little group wanted slopeside accommodation, cheaper food and drink prices, somewhere a little off the beaten track, good sized ski area, off piste possibilities, and no queues to get out of resort or onto lifts. I think we have picked the right area, and I've been considering MonteRosa for 3 or 4 years now so its time to give it a go.

Now, why would you be surprised? Its not one of the mega resorts, and TBH I'm already fed up with some of these places in terms of their pricing and how busy they can get. Serre Che when I first went a few years back was relatively unusual to visit but is getting more popular now, but still retains the feel of a smaller laid back area whilst having tons to go at. Perfect for me, but I've been there for 2 weeks and a short break already so fancy somewhere new.

The choice is basically down to the accommodation. I have found a half board hotel in each resort, both next to a lift station and both able to ski back to. They are traditional and somewhat rustic in styling which I like, and reviews on both are excellent. One is in Champoluc which is at one end of the ski area, the other in Gressoney in the middle of the ski area. I have no real preference on which one. Both have regional flights into Turin so most of us can go from Stansted which would be airport of choice every time for us, and the other 2 can fly in from Bournemouth which is another big plus point.
The real issue will be whether either hotel can offer a single room and if so at what cost, as a mate plans to come but his Mrs does not want to ski any more, and is unlikely to want to go with him, but he won't want to miss out on the skiing himself.

I don't know anyone who has been to MonteRosa but have read some superb reviews on the area.

Hoping to book in the next couple of weeks if the deal is right.

I'm sure I wrote something up way back when but can't find it right now. Great ski area, if a little disjointed in places. You're going to find Champoluc's nightlife pretty quiet after St.Anton and Mayrhofen but it's positively banging compared to Gressoney and Alagna... :lol:

Good. We didn't really sample much of St Anton except straight after skiing before dinner, and to be honest those of us going aren't particularly party animals. Ski all day have a few beers, nice dinner, bed, up for first lift. Bingo.

I'll be interested to hear more on this, from your bank of knowledge Adders :wink:
Gressoney to me looked the better place to stop, but if Champoluc is actually the better place to stay then fine.....all good to know from someone who knows.

Well, top of mine and Mr Nellys list is Val D, however we are being totally selfish here. One of the two that want to come hasn't skiied since 1997, in fact I think she boarded (I was teaching her so she's probably rubbish), so she'll be starting from scratch. She has suggested going to the snow dome for a few lessons which will help her, and there are some great blues in Val D that she could easily get to. Am I selling it yet?

And he's a boarder.

Will report back after the weekend on the final list.

Hooray, very excited, booked this morning - Val D'Isere (after much deliberation and mentally hopping through the whole of the French and Austrian alps!!) in the Skiworls Ski lodge, 5th January - 267 more sleeps.

Too flippin' excited to speak, what on eacrth am I going to do for the next 8 and a half months!!!

Well, I have a plan for the end of this season. I've suddenly got the opportunity of 3 - 4 days in Tignes at the end of April. Will be staying in Brevieres so will sneak at peek at the venue for next January's shindig :) So, sleeps til ski time ? 14 !

That seems ages, but as we all know, winter starts early on this website. Webcam watching starts as early as September in my house.

You have to break it down into smaller quantities, for example, I have 10 sleeps to camping in the new forest at a beer festival, after that I have 19 sleeps to a music festival, after that I have 14 sleeps to a weeks camping in Devon etc.

Then there's a bit of a gap until my main August holiday and before you know it I'll be watching the webcams.
