Excellent news Chris. We are coming from Australia to Zurich for a month and hare having three nights in Wengen over Christmas. Thanks for the updates on the snow it's great to see it arriving. For us coming from the Whitsundays in tropical North Queensland a white Christmas will be a novelty.

Yup,its looking very good and now its snowing down in Wengen and not raining as it was earlier.

Due to snow storms last night and now the only way upto Murren is currently via Stechelberg !!

Snow depth in the village 130cm / Schilthorn 350cm

The Canadian ski designer Paul Mathews had taken the Jungfrau region under the microscope, pointing to a possible future scenario.

His suggestions to the Jungfrau region can be accommodated in the future, in a nutshell:

The relationship between parking, beds and feeder systems must be improved(Murren-Schilthorn, Kleine Scheidegg and Grindelwald-First Male) lanes would be replaced or renewed. In addition to first create a new freeride area that is accessible from the Bachlager again (see chart).

New 8-person gondola from Grindelwald to Bodmi station (450 meters in the tunnel).
New group orbit of the reason for the sports center and a car-free village street.

New cable car from the water station in Wengen over to Winteregg to link the areas of Kleine Scheidegg and Schilthorn better.

"Today you need from Grindelwald to the Schilthorn approximately one and a half hours, this should be doable in a new half-hour to be," said Mathews. belaufen. The estimated cost for all plants in the current situation would amount to some 300 million . "But do not panic, everything else is perfect," he says at the end of his remarks with a laugh.

The Allmendhubel funnicular is now closed and having its cable replaced ready for the summer season. Schilthorn/Birg still open until this weekend...still snowing down to Murren (as per the pic).

Work started last week on doing a major CHF8'000'000 refurb on Murren Sports Centre which will now open fully in December 2012.

Last day yesterday with all lifts now closed but on Sunday it was still skiable down to Murren

Construction of the NEW 6-seater chairlift @ Wixi is well underway in Wengen for the Winter 2012/13 Ski Season. The new chairlift serving Lauberhorn will apparently adorn a yellow weather protection hood adding to the already colourful range of orange hoods at Eiger Nordwand. As well as constructing a base station and summit port, a new bridge is being built over the railway to accommodate the increase of skiers and snowboarders in the area. The new 6-seater chairlift will take 1,800 skiers/snowboarders per hour.

I first went there in 1979, and it was exactly as I remembered everything when I returned in 2011. Even the clouds below us seemed to be the same

Much bigger than I recall the old one. Do you still have to do that little S-turn before crossing the bridge? It used to get quite rutted by the end of the day, and I am thinking if they are going to be increasing the traffic across the bridge, it could get a bit messy

That big building in the first pic is the Wengen Club Med I have stayed in for the last 3 years. Great value as all the food, drinks, ski school and lift pass are included in the cost. They have an annex to the main building where the rooms are cheaper. Food hall and bars are excellent.
