can anyone advise me on general snow conditions in late April in Switzerland?

Presumably it's only glacier areas which are ski-able? Saas and Zermatt? Is that only a small fraction of the ski-able area in each resort?

Sounds like it might be a bad plan to me so I'd rather not pay my cash to find only 1 green and 2 blue runs open, and needing to walk 2 miles to get home...

Thanks

I have been to Zermatt but not quite that late. I think you should still be fine, with a decent amount of the resort still open.

Have you considered Chamonix in France? Its only an hour and a half transfer from Geneva, and has great snow until mid May (it only closes then to let the seasonal workers away, rather than lack of snow!) Been there in late April before and had perfect conditions, and the whole resort was open. Might be a good option?

thanks Esrg.

I was in Chamonix mid-March last year for a cpl of days and the snow was fine then though not fantastic.
I've got a friend living in Switz and he already has some form of mountain pass so I'd be surprised if he wants to pay more for a French pass - if that is indeed how it works.

I skied in Saas-Fee on the 26th April last season and it was still possible to ski down to the resort. The bottom section (below Morenia 2550m) was slushy, but above there the snow was fine. Only the Plattjen sector was closed. http://ski3.intermaps.com/saastal/skimap.asp?map=Saasfee
