I want to take my family to Europe next winter (2014/2015). My kids will turn 9 and 5, and we want to fly into Zurich, as there is a direct flight to Zurich from here, Northeast U.S.

Which resorts cater to families? What we are looking for are (1) lots of beginner/intermediate trails that are easily accessible from the town (we don't want to take a train to get to beginner slopes), (2) beautiful scenery, (3) easy train/car ride from the Zurich international airport and (4) non-skiing activities in the town, such as ice skating, sledding, etc.

Any recommendations as I plan for next winter?

Arosa; two-and-a-half hours on the train direct from the railway station in Zurich airport (not a great drive, but the railway journey is wonderfully scenic for the last hour). Family friendly resort, predominantly intermediate and beginner pistes, easy lift access from the village. Ice skating rink and sledging, horse drawn cart rides etc etc. Ticks a lot of your boxes.

Hi LOTA,

Thanks for the reply. I've not heard of Arosa before, but what I find on the internet about Arosa leads me to believe that it will suit my family very well.

Between Inner Arosa and Arosa proper, which area is better to stay at in terms of accommodation, trail access, non-skiing activities, etc.?

Inner Arosa, smaller, more picturesque, closer to the lifts/slopes.

Arosa, bigger, more hotels, bars, restaurants, railway station, big lake, sports centre, facilities. (I prefer it to be honest!)
