Hi, we are planning our first trip to Switzerland in January 2015 and are wondering if anyone could suggest any children friendly mountains/areas. My wife is a early-intermediate, i am intermediate and the kids will have had 2 and 4 seasons.
As we are travelling from Australia, is it worth bringing our own gear or is it more cost effective to upgrade our gear and purchase skis etc in Europe?
Thanks very much!
Darren

Arosa-Lenzerheide would fit the bill. Intermediate's paradise in two lift-linked resorts. Arosa is particularly child friendly, not much walking around required. Most accommodation close to the lifts or easily accessed through hotel shuttles etc. You're unlikely to need a car, transfer from the airport by the excellent rail service.
Switzerland has, after a few years when France caught it up, re-established itself as the most expensive ski country in Europe. Your best bet would be to hire your equipment (I once took skis TO Australia and it was a bit of pain lugging them all that way!). The best deals can be sorted online well in advance.
Hope you get a great holiday sorted out in Switzerland which, despite the cost, is still my favourite ski destination.

Hi,
I would also look at Wengen, it is a small but very sweet village with truly beautiful scenery, car free, good ski school and a faboulous mountain railway to get up/down the mountains, the kids would love it! The train is included in the lift pass except for going all the way up to Jungfraujoch. it's not a busy time in January thus you should have a great time. The local tourist information is very helpful, they'll be happy to recommend you suitable accommodation, etc Look also at j2ski.com resort info for more about Wengen.I agree with Lota - ski hire seems to be a rational option compared to carrying your own gear in this case. Swiss train system is great, you can get to Wengen by train, although there's no direct service, the train times are all linked so the service runs very smoothly. Again, tourist information can help you with the connections etc
Have a great time!
