Hi Allie.The Austria was really very nice. I didnt hear much from anywhere even though O Malleys was only a stones throw from my balcony .I seem to remember on one night there may have been a bit of jollification from a couple of young uns but it was for only about 2 minutes and didnt bother any of us.
I can heartily reccommend the hotel.The only tiny drawback is that if on half-board you have to order dinner at breakfast time ! Overall its location is ideal for the nursery slopes and the Gondola about 3-4 mins walk away. The rooms are very clean and comfortable ( we had one that overlooked the slopes) . The ski/boot/hire shop is attached to the hotel down a set of steps.Absolutely ideal.If you can get a LOCKER its safer I guess,but we were unable to have one due to lack of availabilty but the ski room is locked at 6pm when the shop closes so its safe enough.The ski /boot room is free and gratis to all who are staying at the Austria accessible from inside the hotel.A pool,sauna,solarium and back therapy cabin are all available.Afternoon snacks available in the cosy bar area ranging from Tomato soup to tuna salad are welcome after a days skiing. So all in all, a very good place to stay.The only closer place would be the Alpenland,but I heard that it isnt quite the standard of the Austria. I would have no hesitation in staying there again.Hope this helps. Love Ava xx |

Hello All. Im back ! What a fantastic week we had !! Snow evey day/night until Friday when sadly on our last day it rained :cry:
However, I am happy to report the Little `un , aged 9 , dumped the snowboard went back to his skis and did the blue loop at the top of the gondola, got fed up with that and graduated to the little red run which he managed twice in quick succession. Not bad considering its his first time out ! I loved red 19 and my other half did 24 and the black a few times. ! Conditions were absolutely fabulous until Friday when it was blizzards at the top of the Gondola but the other half still managed the red 19 down but only once. ! Hotel Austria was a brilliant location for us and is a fine hotel for families. Will post some pics as soon as ive downloaded them ! Roll on next year !! Hi Amanda,hehe it does rather sound like im hiring him out doesnt it ?? Its his frst time skiing mountains,he learned at the Tamworth snowdome and hes pretty good. God only knows how he will do on a snowboard !! It will be a hoot watching him im sure !!

Any J2Skiiers there week beginning 7th March, Me & the man ( and the little `un ) will be staying at the Austria, The little `un is 9 yrs old and looking for some "mates". He is snowboarding and skiing..( for now with Grandma and grandad..anyone out there with young lads give me a shout...Hes a lovely lad..very sociable....loves skiing/wrestling/snowboarding..( allegedly,,,, the snowboarding,he hasn`t tried it yet ) !!
Me and the old guy are soooooooo looking forward to loads of fun,,we have skiied a few blacks in LAKE LOUISE and to be honest,,,most of Europe,Canada and the USA..i.e. Stowe,Tahoe..etc. However...we do really feel that things in life happen for good reasons....we lost our original booking for Canada when XL airlines went kaput. So, we decided to go back to our roots.We learned to ski many moons ago in OBERAU.The ski instructors were brilliant, and thats where we began. Now its time for our "Little `un" to tread in his granparents footsteps...but a few youngsters around will help. ( mainly to give me and grandad time to hit the bar ) )Just kidding..it doesnt do to be drunk in charge of a mad 9 year old !! Looking forward to seeing all any any from here...just yell AVA !! 2 weeks and counting ! I am soooooooooo excited now ! The snow in Niederau looks fabulous and lots more to come next week ! Think I might just go and get the wax out now ive seen some recent pics !! Its set me off AND im watching some skiing on the tele ...... roll ON March 7th !
