Being an Australian it is just exciting to be somewhere white for Xmas and Skiing is a huge Bonus. |

Thanks Mekka, It is appropriate as I have been known to get so excited at the snow that I shed my skin. ;)

True Daved. A helmet may lessen the severity of a concussion but will not completely eliminate the possibility as it is bruising of the brain due to a sudden impact of the brain with the cranium.
Still wear one though for the occasional collision of my head with branches when tree skiing. |

Been wearing a helmet for years now. First one, I went all out and got in helmet speakers. I found out I actually missed the sound of snow under my skis and the peace and quite of off-piste skiing so I ended up not using the speakers except on buses and chairlifts. Next couple I haven't bothered with speakers.
I have never understood why some people get self-rightous about the need for all people to wear helmets. As far as I'm concerned in a very much a personal choice. 7 days till I get to don mine again. :D |

Not so much Spectacular as funny looking back on them.
1995 Sunshine Village (Banff): Teaching myself to snowboard. Went out by myself and then caught up with a mate who worked on the mountain during his lunch break. Coming down to the bottom of the chairlift a bit hot, caught a front-side edge plowed nose first into the wooden post supporting the rope to rope off the chair, spun around the post and smacked my shin. My mate and his friends were applauding and laughing while I sat in the snow. They were short of time and took off for another run after laughing some more. Came back in about 10 minutes time to find me still sitting at the base of the chairlift in a pool of my own blood with ski-patrol in attendance. Turns out I had broken my nose and badly bruised my shin. I got many miles out of that with my mate, claiming he had abandoned me in my hour of need. 2009 Perisher (Snowy Mountains Australia): I had put my noob skiing GF into morning lessons so I could get some free skiing in. Was making my way back towards the school pickup spot by coming down a black run and hit a big lip to clear a traverse. Landed in a pocket of blown powder and bit it big time. Just as I'm dragging myself out of the deep snow my GF's class all ski pass with the GF pissing herself laughing and saying to the instructor that is my BF and he supposedly can ski. Funny stuff. |

From FB page.
So, from tomorrow 8th, the domain will open partially the field Grandvalira-Pas de la Casa and a beginners area in Encamp. The opening will be exclusively for season pass holders Grandvalira Fanatics and those skiers with advance booking now closed. Furthermore, given the snow conditions, the capacity will be limited to 3,000 visitors. In Grandvalira-Pas de la Casa open only find 4 sections of track (track direct and II, FIS, Taupo) and an area for beginners and Grandvalira-Encamp keep open a small area for beginners. Now all they need is some real snow. |
