Final Day of Scottish Ski Season
Started by User in Ski News, 2 Replies
Looks like you have to be a pretty keen skier to bother with Scotland. Would guess it is probably similar for a lot of sports up north with football and rugby pitches being sub-optimal for most of the season. You can fight Mother Nature but it won't be much fun. Still I guess it builds resilience.
Insulated jackets

Given the lack of versatility I would always question buying an insulated jacket. Good hard shell can be worn throughout the year or even casually if that is your thing. As for brands if you jump for an insulated jacket most likely will be worn few times of year only and hence quality is probably is not a big factor. Just go for one that fits wells and you like the color.
Now that looks about as good as a blue run gets. Perfect for some big high speed turns.

Am getting the plumb line out - but you do raise some interesting points.

If you were to tell me to do pure pivot turns then I would have to 'stand up' to get to a neutral weighting to turn around centre of ski. So definitely get where you are coming from. Does that mean my boots / bindings are wrong?

I my mind I tend to see that all from the perspective of where my feet are in relation to body and constant need to pull them back. As long as my arms are in front of my body then being forward is purely my feet underneath me which can be corrected at each turn.

Am not convinced I agree with last point.Needlessly putting boot in maximum tilt and or creating some sort of angle with bindings via a plate puts your body in a needless stress position (shallow squat). You are much better off having a very neutral stance and boots which are soft enough for you to really flex and drive forward during a turn. Can see the point if you're a racer but for people who measure skiing in hrs vs. mins you are just getting tired faster and compounding issue after few runs.
Where to eat whistler

At least last time I visited it really felt like everywhere was similar - perhaps a consequence of the single ownership vs. being an organic mountain town/village and hence feels a bit like a big franchise bubble.
Good news is that this means you can't go too far wrong.

Concur with all of the above - arm awareness and initiate turn with a pull back to help engage dowhill edge all worth keeping in your head.
If there were signs of some sluff I would not hang around and go 1 - 1 with a 50m gap if ski touring. Which would not necessarily keep me safe from a massive avalanche.

Perhaps the piste was just in a sub optimal position but if you take the worst case scenario then a lot of piste would need to be closed.
