Off to La Thuile on 24/02 :) 24 days and counting!

Even more excited than usual as didn't think we were going to be able to make it away this year, but then last minute a few mates were able to get the time off, so had a 'book it today, fly out in a few weeks' experience :) :)
That age old insurance question

Hi,

I have used Direct Travel for every holiday I have been on for about the last 6 - 7 years. Lucky enough to have never needed to claim off them for a Ski related holiday so can't say how they would handle that specifically - however I was unlucky (daft?) enough to break my foot whilst on holiday in Cyprus (no alcohol involved would you believe!).

In that instance, everything just 'seemed to work' - and by that I mean I turned up at hospital and was asked the usual 'Do you have insurance' question. I showed them my Direct Travel wallet card that they helpfully issue and then got taken off for X-ray. Whilst then waiting to have a cast put on the receptionist came over and asked me to pay the policy excess – so she must have by that time already contacted them and been given the go-ahead to treat me (and informed what excess I needed to pay).

All other visits for the rest of the week, and the 'Fit to fly' report I had to get from one of the doctors (and the pair of crutches they gave me) all just happened with no mention of money ever again.

Based on that experience I have continued to use them.
Hope this helps

I fall into the 'long time lurker, but infrequent poster' brigade, but still visit here at least a few times a day during the season :)

One of the friendliest forums I dont post on! :)

First time visit to Serre Chevalier coming up, so also looking forward to seeing somewhere I've never been before!
To book or not to book

We usually book our Ski holidays early to be sure we get exactly what we want, however for a variety of reasons (mainly firming up numbers and deciding on a resort we were all happy with!) only actually got round to booking this years yesterday (going 22nd Jan for a week).

Result - the resort / hotel we had all agreed on in Sestriere no longer had availability that week! While there was other accomadation availalbe is wasn't near the lift which is a bit of a requirement for us.

However, in our mad scramble to find somewhere else, we managed to get the week we wanted but at Serre Chevalier instead - which looks absolutly fantastic! (I know it was recommended to me here when I asked about resorts a few months back - should have gone their all along  )

Anyway - counting the days now :D

lynnemale wrote:Tyche - same as us! Stayed in La Thuile last year and have booked to Sestriere this year! It sounds as if it doesn't have the same charm as La Thuile (which I would be happy to go to again and again), but my partner had really exhausted the blacks there so we thought about the Milky Way and Sestriere seemed the best value. Sauze sounds fantastic, but was higher priced and I don't think the accommodation was as close to the slopes and mostly inaccessible other than by walking.

Hi Lynnemale,

Sounds like you had the same thinking as us! We looked at Sauze too but were put off by a lack of ski-in / out accomodation.

Guess now most of the party are the wrong side of 35, those old bones dont like a long walk at the end of the day!!

Definitely planning to do some ski-ing over in Sauze while we are their (providing the links stay open, have read of them closing in high winds).

Right - 5 weeks to go, better get it booked :D :D
