There are lots of good runs and areas, unfortunately they don't have much snow at the moment so we went to Les 2 Alpes where conditions were much better.
Do you like off piste or groomed runs? |

You can stay fairly cheaply in the Hobit huts at Glencoe.

I drove my Sharan, with m+s tyres on, from Vaujany to Lyon on Saturday afternoon. Lots of snow had been forecast for Saturday all week, so everyone knew it was coming. We skied until 2pm, the snow had been falling heavily all morning and it was very windy too.
I had put my snow chains on before leaving the covered parking and then parked by the Vaujany lift ready to go later on. It's about 3 or 4 miles down to Allemond, took us about half an hour to drive down on a snow covered road that was regularly cleared. On the way down we kept seeing people walking up carrying their bags (lots of people), seemed strange because the road wasn't that bad and there were still cars coming up (some without snow chains on) any way further on down closer to the main road there is a coach parked up, he has no chains on. Behind him there are a line of cars and coaches, some with chains and some without. They can't move because the stuck cars and coaches are blocking the road. If they all had put their chains on in good time there would have been no problem, the queue behind them was pretty much stationary all the way down to Vizille (about 20 miles). Took us about 4 hours to do an hour and three quarter journey as there were also some queues and slow moving traffic going down. We didn't even know how bad it was until we saw the news and heard about all those trapped on the mountain roads. |

Went there a few years ago, everything was fine, it may be a long queue first thing but you will not be doing it again all day. skiing is good for beginner/intermediate if you are good ok, expert look elsewhere.

Stopped overnight in Dole on the way to Morillon. Tried to get some diesel at the intermarche self service, couldn't as all cards declined, seemed to work fine for the french though. Tried another self service place and got all cards declined again. Finally found an attended forecourt and card worked ok. Anyone know what's going on? I have used the intermarche pumps before and never had a problem. My cards worked at the garage on the toll road and we're also fine in the restaurant last night. Seems to be just the unattended pumps with the built in card machine that won't work but why not?

I usually think "take it easy" so do something fairly simple first, then about halfway down, I'm thinking "zzzzz" so next run I've got rid of the rustiness and take on something more challenging.

Hi, we stayed there 5 years ago. It's a nice fairly small village. There are a few shops there, It will probably take you around 20 mins to drive to Megeve. I don't think you can ski to Megeve from there, although there was some talk of joining the Espace Diamant area with the Evasion Mont Blanc area. I don't think it has been done yet, that's a shame because it would be a huge ski area.
The skiing there is good, lots of tree lined runs and great views. We would go back again. |
