The latest research suggests that warming up doesn't make a big difference to the risk of injury however there are individual factors that are perhaps more relevant - such as old muscle tears & strains which may benefit from gentle stretching.
Warming down is claimed to reduce muscle ache and fatigue by keeping the blood flowinging to the muscles but when it comes to a call between warm down/ 4 o'clock cake / a beer I know where my priorities are! |

Well Snowbandit you must have been in a different Morzine to the one I visited in March last year - slush, rocks & ski'd out pistes. On the Les Gets side they were bringing the piste bashers down for the summer.
Getting back to the original posting - the risk of leaving it late is that prices will rise because many of the tour operators have cut capacity and this has hit flight availability too. According to a couple of travel agents we spoke to whilst hunting a last minute boys' trip bargain the accomodation is available but not the flights. If you search for half term as an example there are a few bargains to be had if you can travel from Belfast but the prices jump by £200 for the midlands or the north & there's next to nothing from London airports. The same applies to a lot of last minute packages out of peak time - the flights aren't there. It may be different if you want to drive. The Gran Valira (Soldeu, Pas De La Casa & El Tarter) have a lot of snow making and use them more than many resorts so I wouldn't fret too much about booking now. Most people who slate Andorra probably haven't been there in recent years (or haven't been there at all) |

Off to Courchevel on a last minute booking on Sunday.
Under strict instructions from she who must be obeyed that this is supposed to be my cheap boys' weekend & staying in a chalet in 1350/Le Praz so any tips on bars that aren't eye wateringly expensive for a pre-dinner beer (essential for rehydration). Whilst my mate has ski'd the area in the past he's not stayed there & I've not been to Courchevel so reasonably priced suggestions would be appreciated. Not convinced it will be the cheap week that was planned as it's already cost me over a grand in units for the utility room! However you have to try! |

I couldn't agree more. As for newbies not skiing down the last run? If the run is within their safe ability why not - they've got just as much right to leave the mountain on skis as the experts & those in between. (And will derive more satisfaction than someone who's done it all before). A lot of the low runs get very soft & bumpy as the day goes on which is a challenge for new skiers but not a reason to take the lift. Better skiers have the choice - they can go on the blacks and reds and I do out of preference to avoid slower moving skiers. If the run back to base is blue and busy I just accept that it's safer and a simple courtesy to pick my time to overtake and if necessary put myself at the edge of the piste rather than expect a beginner to wory about what's coming from above and stop when they shouldn't need to. |

Short of smashing her pelvis at 14 weeks the baby is well protected and the exertion is not a risk for the baby.
She's passed the peak time for miscarriage. If she's not hindered by morning sickness she should really expect to have the low alcohol version of the holiday she would have had had she not been pregnant. Take the chance now as it isn't so easy to fit in skiing holidays when you've got a young family. |

I was thinking more along the lines of a piste basher coming down the hill! |
