Skiing v. Boarding
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 44 Replies
Kevinc, reading your post is not suprising I skied for 12yrs approx before getting drunk on my stag do in andorra and taking the challenge from my mates to become a boarder!!! After becoming self/friend taught I became a decent boarder enjoying some great powder and parks!. Up until last year I was totally snowboard then it came to the time my son who is 3yrs was ready to join me on the slopes so thought heck why not try the skis again and I can't believe how good it feels to be back on the trusty skis!!!! Sometimes a break is what's needed to apprieciate the finer things on the mountain!!! looking back when boarding you have to select your resort and runs very carefully if not you could end up walking for miles and then theres lift selection wow, This can be painful if you pick up a long drag for instance, and finally I used to spend most time looking for jumps or fresh powder . As for skiing you can go anywhere when ever you want conditions don't play as much of a part, lifts don't matter you can switch off and take in the scenery,on a board 100%concentration needed. Well that's my take on it just sold all my boarding equipment apart from my dainese protection shorts so if you are size xl there's some for sale.back to skiing fixed myself up with some nordica speedmachine 10 boots and now lookingfor some skis for next year, i have either a of k2 apache recons or Scott neos in mind any suggestions ?? Glad you enjoyed boarding but believe me you will enjoy returning to skiing more )

Hi, we have just come back from la plagne and the childcare was excellent thru crystal ski.My advice is look at crystal ski website and find out where there childcare teams are situated its mainly france! clavier in italy and ellmau in austria!! also we stayed in a family plus chalet which means childcare facilities are on site or next door which makes life for us parents really easy when dropping off and picking up!!!Also chalets are great because they are a big house so no probs with putting them to bed and sitting up enjoying a drink, hope this helps

I just want to share with everyone my recent experience with crystal ski!!! This might not be knew to some but to me it is!!tonight got a call from crystal rep in resort (la plagne) to ask me if i had any pre departure questions or queries, I asked if they had a tv in chalet so we could take the wii for us kids to play she said she will sort it for us and she also got crèche manager to ring me with regards to me being unable to get a space for my son and she said there's loads of space and let me make a reservation there and then balance to pay in resort which is the opposite to what call centre told me,they told me it was totally full.also they has been 2ft of snow fallen in last couple of days. Only 4 days to go can't wait

Hi all, been skiing for many years now but never stayed in a chalet, but since the arrival of my little one we have booked up to stay in a crystal chalet.Could someone shed some light on them so i know what to take/expect!! is all linen supplied, do i need kettle or is coffee/tea free all day long, can you use the kitchen facilities, how much/long is wine free per night, what sort of entertainment is in the chalet for adults and kids!!

Also is there a local shop/supermarket in plagne 1800 for the essentials like beer, beer, beer and erm... more beer!! can you bring in your own beer or do they provide a pay bar in chalet,do chalet host all live in or do some sleep elsewhere.

ps snow is looking good, just hope it stops on saturday night!!!
