Hi all,

We fly out to Borovets on the 27th Dec and are obviously concerned about the snow conditions. It was looking so promising and now the temps are rising again and no snow is falling!

If conditions in Bankso are better is it possible to travel there from Borovets? If so how long does it take?

Thanks

Merry

New year is the busiest period! Many Bulgarians go skiing for the holidays, add the Russian and Greek tourist ... hopefully on 3rd of January they will be back to work :)

Bansko is a nightmare at New Year - the main gondola queue is horrendous (I speak from sad experience).

i was in bansko on 15 jan this year and snow was very good, and by all accounts from people i meet on the plane who went to borovets snow was good there as well.
i then went to borovets on march 6 and snow was very good, but did meet someone who had gone over xmas and he did sat snow conditions were very poor, and didnt do too much skiing.
great place to go for learning to ski, as a cheap way as long as snow is good.

I'm passing on second hand comments here from friends who have been skiing in Bulgaria.
1 couple who have skied im most of the major European resorts said they'd rather not ski than go back to Bulgaria (& we shared a cow shed in Norway with them).

Another said they found it OK but don't take your own gear in case it gets nicked.

Another went several times, although a few years ago now & loved the place.

I guess your experience depends on what your expectations are, whether you get a good hotel and perhaps who you go with! Bulgaria isn't Italy.

We went to Borovetz last year and I agree, I rather not go skiing at all. We started off on a green week and by day two the bottom slopes were so busy, it was not enjoyable. I also found the bulgarian staff lazy when it came to piste preparation, they rather waited formore snow than take a shovel and move some from the edges as they do in most European resorts. The advertised European safety standards were a myth! We found nets missing at dangerous drops on the edge of some pistes. On the other hand, apres ski was fab! But I rather ski than get drunk!

Hello, I need recomendations for a nice 4/5 stars hotel in Bansko. There are a lot of hotels in the resort, all looks good. Please, if somebody has experience to inform me. I will highly appreciate this. We are planning ski vacation in Bansko after 2 weeks and i have to book a hotel. Thank you in advance:)
