ERRRRR NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I hear what you say but this update is VERY significant.
Apple upgrade their lines roughly every 6-9 months with processor updates but every 3 years or so they do a major revamp. Which happened yesterday.
The Macbook felthorpe is brilliant but the new one is a whole new breed, e.g: the removal of optical drive and hard drive.

How do you play CD or DVD then?

Well, the hard drive has been replaced by flash storage. It has 256gb of flash which is not massive by hard drive standards but gives an incredible boost in performance. Its a bit like the iPad, it doesn't take ages to boot up like a laptop and amongst other reasons its down to the speed of the flash over HDD.

The lack of optical drive is quite a bold step really by Apple. Whilst it is still commonly used it is most definitely fading away.
I can honestly say i haven't used mine in about a year. All my software is downloaded, all my video is downloaded and i don't write discs......so whats the point of them? They take up such a huge amount of real estate in a laptops case that can be used productively elsewhere.

i don'tplay dvds in my laptop EVER. why would you?

And to be honest i do not own a DVD player either. I never watch them. Any films i watch at home i download and stream to my TV via a media player. Everything is digital.
Discs are so yesterday.

How anyone who has just bought the latest Macbook Pro (I assume you went for the one with the 2.6GHz processor, 16GB of RAM and the 768GB SSD) could possibly contemplate going on a skiing holiday to a purpose built ski resort in France with Crystal Ski is beyond my comprehension. Steve Jobs will haunt you!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Well at first glance i could see why you would write that but........

I work bloody hard for my money, often full 12 hr days, no break, no lunch, no flipping drink all day. And i am not exaggerating at all.
So whilst i may come across all blasé about dropping £1800 on a laptop please understand it is not the norm.
I am as limited in money as the next man but i love my 'stuff' and i have worked hard for years to afford this luxury.
My ski holiday is still bound by usual finical constraints and hence my dispute with Crystal.
Once i pay for the computer i am back to ski scotland.
