It all depends on your feet....... I don't have any nobbly bits so I have no need to get my boots custom fitted by the experts, but I would still never buy boots off the net as I would not buy my shoes off the internet.

For wide feet I would recomend you to buy Head boots, I had the same problem as you, solomon boots is known to make narrower boots than head so I think its worth a try

I too have "normal" feet so no need for expensive and time consuming fittings. I have bought off the shelf before for my 1st pair, and they ended up being too big. So much so, my 2nd pair which I currently ski in are 1.5 mondo points smaller.
Not only so I ski a lot better, they look the dogs too.
These were bought in a 2 seasons store, but I spent an hour or so trying on everything else, and having the linings heated up to fit my foot. They are perfect and so comfortable.

I would never buy ski boots without spending a fair amount of time trying them first.

I used two sesons who were very helpful, they spent lot's of time helping me try on different boot's when I found the right ones I then had to have the liners heat moulded AND because I have "shrek" type wide feet they blew out the shell at the wide points.

Great help and now V. Comfy Salomon CS boots!

please don't get that rumour started

NO BRAND MAKES WIDE BOOTS OR NARROW BOOTS

every boot brand makes a range of different boots in diffeent lasts i will use atomic as an example they make lasts in 93mm, 95mm, 98mm,100mm, 102mm, 104mm so 6 different widths and options within some of those

head make 95,98, 99, 103,104 so less options and the boots that are most commonly stocked are the 103/104mm lasts

now these sizes are in a boot sized 26/26.5 (yes the shells/liners are the same only the insole differes as has been said)so the width increases as the size increases and gets narrower as the size gets smaller

the really common boot that people with wider feet end up in is the head edge, whilst it is a good boot it fits a bit like a padded ski boot box, it is VERY high volume in the rearfoot with lots of padding, so feels great when you put it on at first, but beware that it will get lose in that area if you have anythign other thyan a very wide heel.

people often come into our shop and say they have wide fee, then we measure them and find that they are at best medium width and often times actually narrow but with a foot that functions wider than it actually is

so beware of being told that brand X makes boots for wide feet etc etc

oh and as a foot note, Lange make boots in 92,95,97,98,100,103 and 104mm so not just narrow ones as people think

Take them to a good boot fitter if they are a bit tight and they can blow them/trim the liners etc.
Contrary to the UK press, there are better boot fitters in the Alps than the UK. Sadly, the ones here seem to think everyone is going racing and so sell them boots a size too small. If you get it done in resort you can ski on them for a day and if they are not quite right take them back in the evening for a bit more work.
Good luck!

Welcome to J2ski I think you might have been going to see the wrong UK Bootfitter. There are some very good UK ones.... you know ^^^^

Seen on another forum recently. Ski Boots can always be made bigger, but they don't shrink in the wash

tim, sounds like you are a bit pissed at a bootfitter somewhere
