I lost My camera in Borovets !!its quite a pleasant place, compared to the rest of Bulgaria. . .
Hi
I've never been on a skiing holiday before so I choose boverets as it looked good for ski beginners.

Just wondering what currency is best to take, I already have some Euros or is it best to take the local currency?
You need levs in Bulgaria. It's best to change your money there but be very careful...do not use the mafia run kiosks. Use a bank or hotel.

It is good for beginners, plenty of variety in terrain & plenty of beginners slopes.

As snowbandit suggested, levs are best to take. There are plenty of ATMs in the resort so using cards isn't a problem. Travellers cheques aren't a good idea as only a few places change them (Flora & Rila), plus I generally find them more hassle than they're worth.

I have never been to Borovets, but can you explain the incredible bad press this resort gets.

Well the site in my sig contains an article where I point out the vast differences between the Alps & Bulgaria. Many people seem to come expecting the Alps level of skiing & piste lengths.

There are of course, thefts & problems that some people experience but in my experience it is no worse than anywhere else I've been.

In short, I'm not too sure.

In thirty years of skiing I have no experience of thefts in any ski resort I have been to, I have read reports of prostitution and Mafia does not seem the type of place I would want to take my family.

At a guess Ian, the same reason Glasgow gets bad press, if you are not careful it is actually as bad as people say it is
