Notwithstanding some negative points I made, Granada is one of the most gorgeous cities you could visit. Nothing if you are looking for 'authentic' apres ski, I suppose, I mean no fondues, gluhwein, holiday clubbing scene, or guys in lederhosen singing folk songs and making you link arms and sway along with the family sitting next. Maybe there is skiers' flamenco near the resort. But stunning architecture & scenery, you can fall in love with it easily.

The Ryanair flights are dire, but cheap and direct. Either very early or very late. Once I was on the flight, the capatain said, 'we were due to leave at 10pm, if we don't get off the ground by 10.30, when the airpot closes by law, we will be here a long time.' We took off at 10.25. The whole thing had an air of chaos. But then London-Salzburg schduled is also a Ryanair monopoly.

I should add that by Euro-zone standards, in southern Spain alcoholic refreshment is very reasonably priced :) In bars aimed at locals, and some more touristy bars, tapas is normally free and good, and with each round you buy, by convention, they offer a better tapas.

Two lifts to get you up the mountain, expensive ski hire, lift passes, accomodation in resort, travel to and from resort long winded if you choose to stay in one of the villages approaching ski area, very different an experience for a weekend but thats about it !!!!

Janbear - my advice - don't!
I skied Sierra Nevada for a day a few years ago, it was that or a days shopping and sightseeing in Granada so no contest.
Did I have a good time? - absolutely yes, great fun and very sunny for February.
Would I go back? - yes, for a day or so if I was in the area.

But ...
I don't think it is really a resort to consider for a week. I am sure that if you were lucky with the snow and the whole area was open it would be OK, but when you have so many choices in the Alps and Pyrenese I wouldn't take the risk.
For me it would be in the same categorie as Scotland - there is skiing, can be really great, but variable conditions and a small area.

When I was there (amiditadly a good few years ago) we never had a bad time. Conditions can be scetchy sometimes but can't anywhere? Night life was awesome.

I often ski at Sierra Nevada and I can give a brief.
I recommend avoid the weekends especially Saturdays. The ideal is to go no more than 3 or 4 days between Monday and Friday in January or early February. Never the last week of February. March is a good month, plenty of sunshine and long days.
There are more than 100 km of slopes and if the snow condition is good Sierra is not a bad place.Good red runs and 3 very good blacks.
I do not agree with Old Andy said to be comparable to Scotland. I have skied in Cairngorm and is not comparable.
If you can go to the Alps or the Pyrenees do not miss the opportunity, but if you combine Granada, La Alhambra, Sierra Nevada is a good option.
We skied last year until May 2 and the next day we went to the beach! Can you do that in Cairngorm? On a clear day you can see the Mediterranean from 3200m.

We are in Marbella and nothing can beat the choice of whether to go skiing, go to the beach or play a round of golf the next day!

The drive is only around 2 hours, which is the same time it takes a lot of the Swiss who live in Geneva to get to many of the top resorts, so you can get just as much skiing in living Marbella as you can in Geneva, albeit with less of a choice.

The resort may not be able to match the top resorts in Northern Europe for some of the more challenging runs, but for 90% of skiers there are more than enough runs and facilities. It did host the world cup.

And there is some really special about standing at the top of the mountain in your skis on a clear blue day and being able to see the Mediterranean sea and the coast of Africa! No other ski resort can offer that.
