Hi all,

I flew with Monarch Charter this year and the tour operator charged us for ski carriage. I rang Monarch and they said that they do not charge for carriage of skis or boots etc.
When I challenged the tour operator they back tracked and said it was for the carriage to/from the airport/resort on the coach.
We all got or money back.
Might be worth ringing Monarch to see if this has changed.

We are flying to Turin with Thompson in January and our ski carriage is costing us £30 each (as they said even with a double ski bag we would have to pay two sets of carriage!) When we first checked the prices on their website the number quoted was £15 each, in line with other companies as everyone has said.
However, by the time we decided to book, the price of everything from flights and accommodation to ski school had rocketed so the holiday is now costing us about £400 more than it would have done if we’d booked a day earlier (why the price should rise by this much overnight I’ve no idea…) Needless to say we weren’t happy about this, but booking things directly or with another operator worked out to be even more expensive so we didn’t really have much choice.

We also have to pay the equivalent of £30... Nothing is cheap in Norway.

It looks like all tour operators are now increasing this charge now. Most are set at £25 and others are as high as £35 (Neilson). It doesnt say that in the early brochures, but revised ones are being produced, and they are also upping the charges when you book and blaming it on fuel prices. I know its not a massive amount of money, but when theres 4 of you, we are talking over £100. Also, in relation to last years costs, its a massive increase.

Just to confirm, most charter airlines dont actually make a charge for ski carriage, but the tour ops do. It remains to be confirmed whether the tour ops actually inform the airlines who is actually confirmed as having prebooked ski carriage, although I know the air crew have to calculate take off weights for fuel etc, so there must be some kind of limit or restruction somewhere.

Anyway, if you have prebooked, dont be surprised if you get a supplementary invoice to pay with these increases.

WE tried lst year, to add ski carriage during the week prior to leaving, and were told that the passenger and ski carriage list had been sent out on the Tuesday, 4 days before the Saturday departure.
