I didn't notice many people bringing their own drinks - restaurants are always full. There are picknick rooms, but I think on holidays it's much nicer to sit in a restaurant with a view, rather than in some dark basement under the lift station. Anyway, I always try to have a raher big breakfast before leaving home because I don't know how my day will go and sometimes skiing is just too good to stop for lunch break - I noticed it's never quite as good after the break too.

I am used not to the fact that most things associated with skiing are expensive. But my first year I was little bit surprised. I leave in Switzerland so it makes no sense to me to travel to Austria to ski and when I go to Chamonix I don't notice it being any cheaper. In Verbier prices are high but you pay for the amazing buzz that the place has and for awesome terrain too so in balance you are getting your money worth.

I've given up worrying about prices in the mountain restaurants. We don't eat out or drink out much at home so more than happy to splash out a bit when on holiday. As Tony said a little earlier in the thread, the drink or snack is hugely enhanced by the view and general ambience. Effectively you are hiring a comfy deck chair for 30 minutes at 2,500m. Can't be bad.

We do carry water in a back pack though so we can keep hydrated during the day.

Spot on. We have the same attitude. Find somewhere you like the look of, eat and drink, pay the bill and dont moan about it.

Mind you we don't do much of France fortunately!

Dave - 4,50 for goulasch soup is cheap, 2,50 for hot drink is about average, although I have seen 6 euros for the same in some resorts in Austria, albeit a spectacularly good one!

I do not worry about the price when I go with my father, he pays :)

Having in recent years been to Livigno and Sauzie and other places I was surprised how expensive it was in Bormio.

I remember Slovakia in 2006 when an afternoon skiing, several coffees and an evening meal in the restaurant was £10. OK the slope was only about a km in length but quite pleasant through a wood.

Have I said this already?

It was nice, and I ate it very slowly! It was the 5€ for the water that was comical

But, as Tony H says, I dont go on holiday to save money. Eat the food, pay the price. Simples
