Ally, it was great over Christmas. Eggman brought the rain with him when he came for New Year! We've self-catered both times we've been to St.G so I can't help with hotels or chalets I'm afraid. We normally ski 3rd week in January & have always had great conditions. We're now tied to school holidays so risked early season this year & got away with it - just (apart from the Eggski day).

what an absolutely gorgeous photo. (sorry I havent read all pages in the thread) but I assume this st gervais. Is all of the terrain like this (tree lined skiing), it looks lush, I want to be there! and it might make myshortlist for next year (even though I am a bit "off" France at the min as it is so expensive) but never say never

Thanks Eggman, that's very kind of you There seem to be several possible different train routes. I will have to see which is the quickest nearer to the time we're going. There is a station at Sallanches and there seems to be one 10 minutes away at what I think is another St Gervais.

Just checked the piste map and it looks like St Gervais is more suited for intermediates (not many blues on the piste map). Maybe keep it locked away for a couple of years time.
