Why does my technique vary so much from day to day?

I has 3 fantastic days skiing in Soll last weekend. However, on day 2, I skied like a donkey . I just couldn't get it right and I knew pretty much exactly what I was doing wrong (weight too far back most of the time). As a result, I was exhausted as I was forcing my skiing.

The next day, was so completely different. I was skiing properly, enjoying fresh powder, carving turns at speed with confidence on pisted slopes and really having a cut at it. Because my tecnique was reasonably good, it barely took any effort (certainly be comparison with the previous day).

It really bother me that I can be so inconsistent. Apart from the obvious answer of anybody who only skies for a week or two a year, can anyone offer explanations for such a wide variation in technique between days?
Is it not quite rational that some days will be better than others? I play a bit of tennis, and some days cannot serve for toffee, other days they come good.

Many days I start off the day with a couple of training runs. Just to do nothing other than do a few drills, and keep reminding myself of the basics.

However, in skiing, the environment often has a strong, and sometimes unseen, impact. You may start the day, having an "expectation" of the piste ground conditions, based on the previous days skiing.

But overnight, a number of factors can contribute to several changes in the surface and substrate crystalline condition. Ise is your man for the detailed knowledge, I just know it happens.

You may have already identified a technique issue, ie weight forward. First thing in the day, the surface is glazed, and Whoosh, you spend the next kilometre trying to catch up with your feet.

Oh, and stay off the grog the night before.

What a ridiculous suggestion . It is a ski holiday after all. Very few of us would have the slightest idea what it feels like to ski without a hangover .

Incidentally, I had a far harder night before my much better day skiing .

BTW, I did wave over to you in Neiderau from the top of the Hohe Salve but you probably didn't see me - visibility was about 10 metres at the time .
My technique doesn't only vary day to day but during the day too. I can start off the day skiing like sh*t and finish out skiing like CJ.

Much in the same way I can go out in 45 on the golf course and make the back holes 1 over par

Yep. I have days like that too. I think you just have to get on with it and try to work on your weaknesses each day and make the most of it the limited time we all get on the snow.

Read "Inner Skiing". It will explain everything...
Dont worry Wanderer..most of us have days like that.
I have good days and bad days too. Usually it takes me a couple runs to loosen up ,and to get the groove going (more than ever now with my wrecked knee). Although at lunch I enjoy a drink, than my sking is awesome ha ha ha least in my own mind
