Was idly flicking through the 1989 edition of The Good Ski Guide last night - and came across a map of Arosa/Lenzerheide which also showed some lifts in a resort called Tschiertschen.

Wondered if any of you Swiss experts knew anything about the place - and whether it's worth making the excursion when next in Arosa.

Thank you.

Just bumping this to the top!

The internet yielded a little more info; would like some more!

Thank you

I go to Tschierten on a semi regular basis. I find it a nice resort, but mainly north facing so it gets little or no sun in mid winter. At the moment the sun is getting a little higher in the sky and it is quite good. I would not consider the resort big, but it has a nice mix of runs and as has been said before is reasonably close to Lenzerheide and Arosa. The town is a beautiful Swiss Village which is fairly cut off from the outside so a good local experience. I would have no hesitation on going there for a holiday.

Many thanks. Might drop in when I go to Switzerland in early March,

If you are experienced in back country skiing and have the necessary equipment you can ski down there from Arosa. It is also possible to do a round tour between the Arosa, Tschierten and Lenzerheide areas. The scenery is beautiful but route selection should be done very carefully to ensure safety.

Lenzerheide is excellent. I found it by accident when I saw an arrow on the Arosa piste map pointing up towards Lenzerheide. I went there in Jan 2008. it snowed every other day. Fortunately we already knew we could ski through and below the treeline when it was snowing, and above the treeline when the snow stopped. Town is DEAD at night, like most ski resorts. You can ski the circuit, just follow the sun. The 'free' bus is brilliant as you can come off the slopes in about 8 different places and the longest you'l wait for a bus is 15 mins max.

Fantastic skating rink if you're into that.

Food is good in the mountain restaurants but they all have the same menu!!

We stayed in the Sunstar. next time we might stay on the mountsain in the Tsagienti (sp?)hotel(?).

Well worth a long week's skiing - we had 8 ski days.
