Trencher,

So far you are the very best!

Great answers! Some I had to read three or four times since you were so close!!!!!!
I know for sure that you will say, " I knew that,,,damm of course that,,,,,,,, I use it every ski season and even sometimes 3-5 times a season", You living in USA will for sure "slap your forehead" and say, " yes yes I read about this in SKI and Skiing many times"!

Your score is 3/10 with a possible 5/10 since so many answers were so close!

I promised NOT to give hints,,but I really do want to give away these gloves to a "worthy" skier so,,,,,

1. Item 1: angles and perspective is your entry
a symbol will appear, then a thought, and if you know Pavel's inclination it will help! If you took his course it will steer you in the right direction.

2. Item 2 : The "teeth" should tell you where to bite! If ever you had Tyrolia the answer is yours!

3.To be "ahead" of the wave of new ,,,,,,,,,,, is their goals.

4.Strength and rigidity comes in many forms!

5.There are many places where you can be in TWO places at once!

6.The man that can "tranfer" one successful process to another context will always be a great success!

7. What is the central concept in Gaussian theory?

8.What do they ask you when you rent skis or when you buy skis?

9.How can you go faster, sharper, longer?

10. This event made "men" out of boys! All who participated never forgot this event. In fact they still talk about it! They still make movies about it!

I hope this helps some skier!

I know the rules of engagement stated that we were permitted one - and only one reply ... and to that end I've used my one shot.

Since the quiz continues in my own little world until I see the correct answers.... and possibly others who have yet to post an answer (maybe Jan for example) might get a thought from what has come to my mind to help ( in their reply, I offer this for consideration.

Maybe the answer for # 10 has more to do with the quest of "Invention" and his friend "Lazyness". Maybe Pavel is not trying to have us focus on the Lake Placid Olympics but rather a major trek up the Tuckerman Bowl I know he has done this trek quite a number of times ... I don't think that is a secret.

I wonder ...... .... Was there a major gathering at Tuckerman which fulfilled the clues of Pavel's original question. (Something famous like the concert at Woodstock which has world fame.)I have seen movies on the place. The trip down is a lot more fun than the trek up -- Just ask "Invention" & "Lazyness"

Mike now you are giving a great clue,,but think even bigger!

Please think VERY BIG!!!

NO ..think HUGE!! Like a most important earth shattering event that shook major countries.....

What would get all sorts of skiers in North America to unite!

If there was a really strong case that skiing may come to an end then I think skiers would unite and try to stop the cause - of the possible end of the sport. The cause is huge, the cure is even bigger because it would require world wide co-operation.

Global Warming would unite all skiers and as the weather patterns have changed in North America.... this must be the event!!

Mike,,
That is an event that is "unfolding",,,,the other huge event happened some years ago.

Yes Pavel, that's certainly true ... it is an unfolding event.

I was originally thinking of the World Cup events of the 1970's when the Crazy Canuncks came into the forefront of the event; but didn't think that was as huge as you may be looking for --- nor did I think it united any more than the Canadian skiers from North America. There have been movies made the ski team's formation and it's story in general. And the way they dominated the World Cup events certainly shook other countries in suprise...

So let's see if this is the event you have in mind. It almost seems that I've found my shotgun ... but my reply has been posted so any of my comments are actually just "ski chatter" .

Here is a reference to the Crazy Canucks for general interest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crazy_Canucks

(By the way, 1970 was my first year in University - and many years before I "found" skiing, so all the excitement about the "team's" accomplishments at that time was lost on me, I'm afraid.)

Mike,
You must be Canadian to mention those "crazy canucks",,most skiers on this site have no idea who they are.

Let me try another way to get you out of the "skiing" perspective. Yes this great event did unit ALL the great skiers to be together (some even had life long activities due to this participation)!

In our life time ( assuming you are not under 50) there were perhaps 5 events that "marked us"; onset of Rock and Roll, Beatles, Cold War, Hippie Mouvement, and,,,,,

Some demographers would even argue that we were the "product" of this event!

Pavel, many UK based skiers will be used to seeing Ken Read on their screens on the BBC's Ski Sunday programme. He acts as occasional commentator for them, as well as being Director of the Canadian Ski Team effort AFAIR.

Bandit,

I was sure you knew about this issue! Did you know he just resigned from Team Canada?

Do you want to is evidence of "class"?

In the 1980 Winter Olympics Ken Reid was "projected" as the possible winner of the Downhill event!

10 meters from starting gate,,his rear bindings "release" and his is thrown off course!

Not a word against the company! Not a word against the ski technician!

He accepted the "accident" with dignity and class!
