 Zermatt 7-10th November Wonderful Snow

I have been out in Zermatt for the Swiss Ski Test. Conditions from Trockener Steg upwards were very good. I did see some folks skiing down towards Furi, but it was a bit thin underfoot, and officially closed.

The resort was very busy at the weekend, and there was quite a crush for the cable cars.
Some more photos on my picasa page http://picasaweb.google.com/bandit2106/ZermattNov08# and a trip report with photos on my blog

Now, for absolutely no prizes whatsoever....Name the mountain in the top photo

Fab photo's Bandit.................is it the Matterhorn?
I'm a laydee
Thanks Rose Yes, you are quite correct, Zermatt is dominated by the Matterhorn. Despite having several mountains surrounding the resort, it's the most recognisable peak.
I read somewhere that the shape was the inspiration for Toblerone

Oooh I got a geography question right. My sense of direction and geography is well noted to be one of the worst.

If you look real close in the picture of the Matterhorn with the snow field, on the left hand side there are tracks along the ridge line, impressive!

Yes Ross, well spotted, a rather neat single set of tracks too

Rose, that's us both getting lost in the car park then! If we get to ski together we'll need to take ise with us as he can do navigation quite well

Daved, thanks BTW the new snowmaking machine up at Trockener Steg is paying dividends AFAICS. The snow base is pretty deep, and there is plenty of terrain to explore. I saw snow cannons working below T.S, and by the time you arrive the runs down to Furi should be ready.
The very top station of the Klein Matterhorn is still a building site, with the new entrance to the Glacier Palace and the new restaurant still under construction. The run down is still breathtaking though...as you would expect at 3800m
The snow quality was wonderful, dry and slightly squeaky. The sort of powder that I ski on in my dreams

Is that snow field glacial? Wonder why there aren't more tracks on it. Pics look fantastic Bandit!
