I am looking for advice regarding hiring a pair of boots for my son, when we go to St Anton in January. A friend has kindly offered to lend him his previous pair of skis, and I was thinking about renting boots for him, but wanted to compare the cost of ski carriage on the flight plus boot hire, to hiring a full package out there.

Unfortunately, St Anton appears to be a particularly expensive place to rent equipment. I have had several online quotes, and silver/intermediate skis, boots and poles are coming in at around £170 for 6 days, which I think is very expensive. I was paying around £60 for this in other resorts, and one place in Mayrhofen was even doing them for 50 euros for a full set!

However, I cant seem to find a way to get a quote for renting boots alone, and wondered if anyone knew of places either here in the UK where you can hire boots and take them with you, or websites to obtain quotes for boot only rental. The usual places, ie Skiset, Sport 2000 and Snowrentals all only let you get quotes for a full set of skis and boots.

The other option would be to buy him some boots in the sales, but he is unlikely to ski again for 3 or 4 years after this holiday, as he is heading out to America to go to College and play football.

Any suggestions?

Tony

I assume by football, you mean soccer . Get used to it, as he'll find it strange to say football himself after a while.

There is skiing in some unlikely places in the US, Georgia, Alabama, etc. More States have skiing of some sort than don't.

There is only one kind of football my friend, and yes - that is also known as soccer. I have tried to convince him that Utah or Colorado have excellent colleges for him to consider...... )

Anyway.....

Boot hire.

Anyone?

tony,

according to the latest edition thompson brochure a weeks premium boot hire is £49,so i would guess that standard boots would be 30 odd quid.

would be worth checking out the price on buying a pair in resort.

i bought a pair of nordicas for 90 euro in st anton about 4 years ago ,still using them now.

I was thinking about buying some out there to be honest, but because he wont be skiing for another 4 years or so (contractual obligations and all that) it didnt seem to be too good an investment. However, I will have a look around on day 1 just to see what deals are about. Thanks.
